American pat
by nitinvijayan on Feb 27, 2009 05:26 PM  Permalink

why are we Indians so deperate for a pat from the US. AR has provided music that is a zillion times better in movies like Roja , Taal , Indira , Pudiya Mugam etc.We as Indians should have our own identity & not get mixed up with materialism. We have already lost some good cinema which were made by greats like Satyajit Ray , Adoor , Aravindan,Mirnal Sen,Gautom Gosh , Girish kasaravalli,Ms sathyu,Mani kaul etc.The national awards has gone to dogs and the country producing mediocre stuff which degrades and dips the nations IQ.

Best art direction

And the academy award for the best art direction in 2008 goes to Congress party for the movie Slumdog millionaire.

Sonia Gandhi on her acceptance speech said that it took around 50 years of hard work for them to create the theme and background for this movie very naturally. She added that many more such wonderful sets are created by them across this country. She is hopeful that these sets will attract more and more hollywood directors.

Dear Indians/ Americans,
It is great insult for Indians. How dare the Americans can name the movie as Slumdog Millionaire for the movie based on Indian story? The word "Slumdog" really hurts. Somebody have an explanation, as the word "Dog" is not insulting. If you think it is fine to call the former United States President as "Bald dog President" and the current one as "Black dog President", Whoever leads the place where Hollywood located.. Please be considerate about others too. You can ask me, “ Are you considering others?”. I will consider the people or a team who consider others. Call back the movie…!

why not ...?
If you have a system which openly denies human rights...
If you have a syetm which is dumb to the attrocities
in the name of culture, religion and region..
If you have a sysetem which doesnot tolerate human beings
in your own country itself....

Even a human looking person in any other part of the world
have every rights to say ...'You are not human'

Whether it is a foreigner made or indian made...
Whether you label it as a 3rd class or 1st class one
(hope you still agree that majority of the people
in this country doesnot even have a 3rd class life)....

First let ourself change to Qualify as Sensible & Worthy
HUMAN BEINGS!!!

Yes, by blessing our lots in those Oscars, we surely have accepted our status as slumdogs. That is most certainly an insulting term. Would a name like "Lucky Millionnaire" or "Indian Millionnaire?" would have repelled the Oscars?

British Movie
by Max on Feb 25, 2009 10:58 PM  Permalink

It is a British film and British films always win Oscars every year...so stop pretending this was an Indian movie which won an Oscar...it was set in India like so many other Oscar winning British movies --- Gandhi, Gunga Din, A Passage to India..to name a few. The Brits always get to the Oscars every year and this year they took India along.

Future of Indias film indutry is in shifting to English,
by NamoUdupiSrikrishna on Feb 24, 2009 05:23 PM  Permalink

Future of Indias film indutry is in shifting to English, to be global in nature.

Indian professionals, scietists and thinkers have succeeded asnd recognised when they started doing their bwork and expressing their talent in a globally recognised language, that is english. Indian film industry has to come out of the its over dependence of hindi and regional languages and has to shift to English to be global, for more exposure, for survival and to show case its originality, before outsiders export their products for our large englsh enabled audience. English is the language which has won the battle of dominance in world and when we adopt it we too are part of that. Otherwise bollywood will face the fate of Spanish, French, German or rabic language movies. English is the common language for Indians and it is foreighn language to every Indian, love it, marry it, reproduce it and make it your own to succeed.

English is the global medium of communication for the new millenium. make it yours, Bollywood, then surive and succeed. Make Indiam movies with Indian stories, Indian stars, Indian settings, Indian songs, Indian technology in Indian English. This is the way to go, get recognised and to success.

Jai Hind,

what we have seen in slumdog millionaire is not poor image of India. That is a true fact and that what happening in India. If you want a proof for this just go and visit galleyes of metro cities like mumbai and all.Rich people getting richer day and poor people getting more poorer.I dont think this movie insulted any Indians. But when talking about this movie i can say that its because of foreigner director this movie got 8 oscars. If this would have been directed by Indian maestros like ManiRatnam this wont be accepted among foreigners.Any way this is a good movie with tight direction, screen play, editing, camera, music, sound mixing, acting etc..
