true ... even i agree . songs are not competent as other songs of a .r rahman . even story of film too is not at all competable to our hollywood movie ... see chandini bar and astitva and compare with slumdog ...

1. rasathi-from thiruda thiruda,which had no bacground music.the rhythmic hums of singers served as bgm, 2.o ri chori-from lagaan,hear out the contrasts in hindustani by udit and alka with western vocals provided by vasundhara das 3.nahin saamne yeh alag baat hai-from taal,one of hariharan's masterpieces 4.netru illadha maatram-from pudhiya mugam,it served as a brilliant highlight to sujata's ebullinet singing. 5.nee nadaswaram pola vandhal-from azhagiya tamizhmagan,brilliantly sung by ujjaini and two other singers. 6.jane tu mera kya hai-sung by runa for jane tu ya jane na. i have listed out six instead of five and i can list out several more.
Roja Songs are the best till date. Swades - yeh jo desh hai mera. Bombay songs. in his own album - song with nusarat fateh ali khan - chanda suraj lakhon tare. Dilse - Dilse re.
Dil Se - Chhaiya Chhaiya... Taal - Nahi Samne.... Swades - Ye Tara wo Tara.... Swades - Ye jo Desh Hai Mera.... Ghajini - Kaise Mujhe tum Mil Gaye... List is endless!!
A R Rahman is a genius, no one can match his skill. Also it is very hard to make a list of five of his all-time songs. His music & songs are unique in their own respect wether u take "Rangeela", "Dil Se", "Taal" "Jodha Akbar" or "Slumdog Millionaire". It is very very hard for me to select a best of 5 from this.
