Do we need a Big Brother Winner to feel proud as an Indian
by bimal janardhan on Jan 29, 2007 10:10 AM

Hi,

The media must be ga-ga over Shilpa winning the Big Brother contest... and Shilpa herself claiming to have made her country proud.. But does simply making a good amount of money for herself or getting a facelift for her sagging professional life a matter of proud for INDIA.. I dont think so!!

Congratulation to Shilpa!!
by P Ravi Krishnan on Jan 29, 2007 10:06 AM

I convey my heartiest congratulations to Shilpa Shetty to make our country proud. Unlike in India, where she did her job in Bollywood and could not succeed to level where Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukherjee, Aishwarya Rai have reached. She outwitted these ladies and taught her sweet lessons to her critics & haters who disowned her. Now Bollywood filmakers are after her for her roles in new films.

right! this has much to do with mega media corporations, TRPs, ad revenues, and other commercial interests, far away from racism or any attempt to solve it or address it. the only interest was commercial. there's no indian success here. no white attitude was subdued, its all a bunch of bull! we need not jump in joy, she just won some damn competition. thats about it. dont give a damn about it.

if it really solves any problems or if addressed any social issue meaningfully it would have been a different issue. that channel 4 only did was a knee jerk reaction, not pro-active but reactive. so it just goes onto say, nothing has really changed. any tears shed are crocodile tears at best.
