Savithri not acted in "naan avanillai" I would give full mark for Gemini for Kanavaney Kan kanda deivam, Manalaney mangaiyin Baghyam, with Anjali Devi as co-star. comparing Dilip saheb with Gemini is like comparing lava with everest. Dilip saheb is like fire and will become part of role himself whereas Gemini is very cool whether in tragedy. comedy or romance. very decent acting.
It is as if, Kamal has given this message to his fans in Hindi filmdom and not for Tamil film goers. Because of mentioning Sivaji Saab and Dilip in his interview, he has made a glaring mistake in co-starring Savitri in Gemini's home production Naan Avanillai. In fact Gemini was not in favour of Savitri producing films and Savitri didn't feature in Gemini's production. If I am remeber correctly, it was only one film that he produced under his banner, Narayani films, named after his mother, whom he considered as his mentor. Similar to Sivaji and MGR who also considered their mother as their motivator and mentor. Hope Kamal gets his facts right.
There is absolutely no point in comparing Gemini with Dilip Kumar. Gemini was a handsome fellow. He never overacted. Even when Balachander tried to make him overact in `Unnal Mudiyum Thambi', Balachander did not succeed. Gemini did the role with such a finesse without overacting so naturally, that Balachander himself ve been surprised. Again in `Iru Kodugal', his acting was so natural and I can assure you that that was not because of Balachander. Gemini was a genius. Acting came naturally to him. He lived his roles, my dear. Who can ever forget the natural and genuine expression of love in the eyes of Savithri and Gemini in the picture `Manampola Mangalyam' when they first meet at the river bank! He had a double role in that movie and movie goers enjoyed both the roles. Decency is his forte, whatever be the role, even if it be a madcap's role just as it was in Manambola Mangalyam.
