It is wrong to say that the trend has been reversed & what we see is reverse brain drain. The craze for going abroad-especially to US which is a country of opportunities as per the one's talent still continues. The very fact that the quota of H 1 Visa of US is exhausted on the very same day within hours after opening despite increase indicates the extent up to which still foreign jobs are in demand for various reasons- especially work culture and quality of life. Most of the people returning are for personal reasons such as their family ties,ailing/aged parents etc.Seldom are the cases where patriotism for mother land or sense of serving our own motherland weigh.Vexed with appalling condition of the basic facilities in regard to say-water,electricity,transportation etc, some of those who went back promptly returned to US.Though initially suffocative for 2/3 years till they settle down, people get used to the sophisticated life and are not preferring to come back especially after begetting children. The hike in salaries in IT sector followed by fall in dollar value is only fractionally responsible for the return of NRIs.The proverb"inaccessible grapes taste soar" truly holds good in case of those who could not get H1 visa, but yet crave for a job in US.The fact remains that the average NRI who believes in "no non sense" is never willing to get away to the comfortable and hassle free life they get used to in a country like US.The sample survey does not indicate the true position.
I think why I think people are returning is becuase they have self respect. They know what they are capable of. I live in UK and I can tell you Indians coming from India are not treated very well, not by English but our very own Indians who are born and brought up in UK. They treat Indians coming from India as second class people.
These IITians know their calibre and they know what they are worth. More than any domestic comfort they long for self respect.
I can tell you I am graduate from IIT and am contemplating returning not becuase I will get Maids or Servants but I will be among my own people where everyday i do not need to defend my country and where I won't lose self respect.
I know in India there are lot of problems but than we are cowards that we are avoiding those problems instead of trying to resolve them.
Hats off to you guys who have returned. Well Done !!!

I think this is the problem with UK. I`m in Singapore and I can say its akin to finest city of India. I socialse with more indians than back at delhi ( i have more time here ) , lifestyle is much better, no reservation problems i use to have back home ( only if u r capable you get it, not by ur caste certificate). Above all i need not be at home to fill the water ( mind well i was in south delhi and not a village ), not expected to work beyond office hours without compensatory duty offs in oncoming week and get 5 days working. Its easier to reach india ( 6 hrs flight if you don`t take Air India ) . tickets are cheaper than delhi bangalore flight ticket! You get everything here though slightly costly backhome ( but u r paid also more ) and you get maid/ domestic help.
Yes you do work thrice or more than what u use to do in india but in 8 to 9 hrs working bcos the work is very well manages and you have to do ur work and not multipurpose worker as backhome.
Agreed indian economy is booming and may be number 2 after 10 yrs or so, but the work culture will never be like here. What will I do of fatter pay package backhome if i can`t enjoy my life, need to be at home for filling the water that too in cream area of India`s Capital!!

I have lived in INDIA all my life mate and thereafter I went there.. I am writing this only after I have compared life in both countries and came to conclusion that India still stands out inspite of all it's water, electricity, pollution, population, property, congestion and many other endless problems...
I would suggest you go abroad and see the real picture and than you would realize how life is for Indians abroad.. just staying in India and passing comments about India won't help. Before I left India I also used to feel the same. India is only problematic country in the world not any more...
Just watching Bollywood movies where Indians living abroad can sing ' Jan Gan Man' in school assembly simply does not work.. No one bothers and BBCD not at all...

abe chuchundar, tujhe kya lagta hai tu hi abroad gaya hai, baaki log bollywood dekh rahe hain, i think you must have behaved like a jerk there, that is whay u were treated badly, i found people very civilised abroad
Look at the scenerios in the article - qualification of technologist and for many cases also management but working for Financial Institutions (i think - either as a trader or in the IT dept). This guys are jack of all trades but masters of none. The only thing i can think of is - these guys donot know what they want in life and in the process wasting valuable resources. Starts of in technology, switches to finance, moves to different countries. Can anybody rely on such people for any progress? These are a bunch of self-centred people who like to poke their nose to anything that glitters. And when they find that everything that glitters is not gold moves on to something else. Reminds me of those Hollywood movies where aliens invade planet earth and consume its resources and moves on to the next planet. Do not understand why this topic is brought up over and over again? There is nothing to be proud of or debate the issue here unless they seriously prove their worth and loyalty.

this looks to me more a case of sour grapes than genuine concern about the quality of iit grads...while i am not from an iit myself, i have had quite a few iit grads report to me over the years and i must say i have been really pleased by their performance especially in their ability to take on new challenges...(there have been exceptions but in general)...others (again with notable exceptions!!) have been crybabies asking for precedences, training, support etc everytime confronted with a new problem or even a twist to the same problem...and they include the so called deep "experts" who have the certificates and the experience but no bloody "problem solving" skills...give me a jack-of-all-trades problem solver anytime!!!

please explain why you want people who can give you returns without proper support and training? Does'nt that thing make your company un professional. Here is canada even for level 1 job people are trained and given full training before assuming the responsibiliy of their role.
India is heaven for working as well for all values but for the greedy politicians who to meet their petty goals killing morality of all people in the name of democracy..the most exploited are rural poor..where is the morality that achieved indepedence among politicians?congress killed all moraliy since all sundry joined the party with no morals after getting independence..
This Matthew Schneeberger making this a big issue. I know still people are dying to go abraod. I see everyday around me how many indians are coming here. If a bunch of them went back because some personal or diff reasons, he thinks they represent all IITians. Not really India may be land of opportunities now but still it need a change from the stupid people sitting in delhi.
There is an opportunities for all you do not have to go any where the opportunities are at your door step so why you are waiting for just do it the place you will be the boss and you have to decide when you want to work just login syed0906dotcom please replace dot with . thanks follow instruction have a nice day ahead
