how many of you have taken IIT entrance or for that matter prepared for it, the hard work involved to get into IIT itself speaks volumes of these IITians, we have not treated these guys or given them opportunity to stay in india, thats precisely why they went for greener pastures, if they are back to india we should welcome with open arms, these brains are precious, let this get into ur heads

exactly. Just a look at IIT entrance paper blows off your mind. Wonder how kids of 17 and 18 clear it. Great brains indeed!

OK, IIT entrance exam is tough and only a few clear it. But I think clearing the entrance is more to do with hard work, dedication and most surely relentless hammering than actual brains. I am sure many of the so called lesser brains would clear that provided they get that kind of coaching. So far no IIT graduate has been able to get nobel prize nor has they achieved any remarkable breakthrough in reserach. Also, there are hardly any successful entrepreneurs. I should know, I am closely associated with Banking sector and I have seen two IIT graduates fail miscerably as entrepreneurs and have defaulted banks. I think IIT is over hyped
The person working in USA is getting almost the same salary now in India. Moreover the rupee getting stronger. USA is expensive...Not able to save enough money.
Better return to India and enjoy the life with Tamasha of everyday.

Today dollar rate is 42. IF saving 3000 USD per month is equal to 1.5 lac rupee in india. Tell your story to LKG Kid they will believe with having a lolipop in mouth
Most of them working for software support in US and are considered as cheap labour...,What about non-IITians that makes a much larger populations in IT sector, they also have options to earn and live goood. The people who had earned and saved a lot will tell great about coming back here. Its professional strategy to confuse people about making decisions...that shall be stopped...and if you have done.. its ur decision...do'nt make it public...since ye public hai ye sab janti hai....

Creator dwells in all his creations. Creator is not separate from his creations. There is only one element in the universe-that is God himeself. He is manifest in he universe in so many ways and forms. He can exist in any form, or even without form. There is no way to put any limit on him.

The catchy 'Reverse Brain Drain' is a necessity owing to the turn-around being achieved by the Indian economy. India has always been a land of destiny. it was evident from the days of arrival of Greeks, Sakas, Parthians, Muslims, and then Brits. Though their motive etc. might be different, it draws close resemblance.
Now, even Indian working experience is part of international experience and indespensable to career development due larges scale presence of high-profile MNCs. Moreover, as markets determines power and privilege, it is the Indian market with huge presence of middle class that is going to give these MNCs and their manpower the competitive edge. Also, our best brains are no less talented than anybodyelse in the world and thus, they gain precedence over their foreign counterparts when it comes to working in India.
It is good for the country. Let them not only earn, but also learn how to uplift their unprivileged breathren with what they earn by creating opportunities, help honing skills etc.

I totally agree with what you have to say about the turnaround in the Indian economy. Sadly professionals returning to India has nothing to do with their willingness to serve our country. It's a choice focused towards self development. For a lot of them even after having performed well in the last fiscal salary increments would have not translated into much owing to the drop in the $ value and rising inflation. What next, lets move to a country with a growing economy and appreciating currency. As it turned out in this case that country is INDIA and hence a lot of people returning. The gist is had they would have moved to any other country with India's growth story, hence IITans coming back home is not a valid statement.
Now they come back since the grass is greener over here...these people had no compunctions leaving India after availing of the best facilities here...now they're back only because they get paid better here...and all this is clothed in the garb of "home sickness"...

You are right. Reading the interview it made me sad: those intelligent and lucky people seem concerned only with money and luxurious life than social work and social responsibility. " Gupta's own case is an exemplar of the advantages: in terms of luxury and amenities, his new home in Richmond Park, Gurgaon, on the outskirts of New Delhi, rivals the exclusive communities that house most high-income Americans. It has good schools, good infrastructure, well-paved roads, peaceful gardens, watchful security, and a consistent supply of water and electricity." The feeling is: what a selfishness!
No shortage of new Talent and millionaires in India. Young millionaires from Reliance, TATA, Cognizant, Infy, Wipro, Satyam,HCL, HP,IBM,IIMs, IITs Salaries match the US, $50-60k/yr for an average 10 year old experience programmer or Manager. Starting salaries for 22 year old IT programmer and MBAs even from tier-B business schools are in the 6-10 lakh rupee and go up by 20-40% a year after that. A sizable amount of Indian population 400 Million will be moving into the middle class. As more people gain access to education and get integrated into domestic demand/supply and country GDP.
Its u ppl who vote and think about the country that matters ultimately. This NRI IITians are jokers in card game they come and go.When they come we think thats our luck. But trully they never serve/help the country in peril conditions

it mite b true that iit/iim grads go to US for better salaries...but there is nothing wrong in it as long as they pay back to the country in any form..how many people in india try to help the society???most of the orphanages/old age homes are run by donations given by NRIs...we need both man power and monetary power to help the society..if people who stay back in india help in the former, the NRIs help in the latter..everyone in this world is ambitious to make their life better..they have earned it and nobody has rite to question their decision until we provide a better alternative employment in india.

thats true everyone hv right to make thier life and settled whereever they want. but as you mentioned "most of the orphanages/old age homes are run by donations given by NRIs..." i am little bit not satisfied with this statment because i dont know which part of our country these helpful NRIs are sending their funds? most of the such kind of organisation run by govt aid and other international organisation not NRI, you can correct me if i am wrong.....
RE:Forget about them These 200 IIT NRI ppl are only concerned with their own shit
by itsrenu on May 15, 2008 11:39 AM
govt aid and international organizations do help..but they are hardly enough for their food and shelter..most of the education/medical expenses for these orphan kids is sponsored by indian associations in various states of US/UK. u can check in in ashanet.org and parivaar.org to name a few...

Dont generalize IITian NRI with All other nri ppl. These IITians are arrogant. They think after doing getting degrees in IITs they will get a pair of wings to fly.they want to dictate all.Nor they respect their fellow NRIs are visit their homeland
RE:Forget about them These 200 IIT NRI ppl are only concerned with their own shit
by itsrenu on May 15, 2008 10:26 AM
many mite..but u cannot generalize that all of them are arrogant..wen politicians, film stars or sportsmen are arrogant y cant they b arrogant. some times to come up the ladder in indian work setting you need to get a little arrogant. dont even mention that only iit/iims have an attitude...ive seen so many other professionals with same attitude problem..i strongly believe that it is a personal trait and cannot be generalized..

I know what you are hoping for that some iitian reads your post and proposes you and you get married. Its all about money, honey! accept the facts. you want money, iitians want money and even i want money. wherevr we get whetehr india or us doesnt matter..wat matters is: money!!!
RE:RE:Forget about them These 200 IIT NRI ppl are only concerned with their own shit
by itsrenu on May 15, 2008 10:31 AM
i dont care if any iitian has to propose r marry me...i have an engineering degree and a phd degree and i do research as a full time job..everyone knows how much research job pays..i cud hav easily taken a lucrative job after my engg if money was my only goal...if money is all wat matters to u then excuse me...
All IITans mentioned in article and not working technology sector. Interesting to note after getting an engineering master's degree they opt to chose financial careers. Doesn't that say something. Where is the passion for technology development and research. Does it mean that they can't develop next generation technology in India and opt to work for alternaitve financial sector.
Wonder what these IIT grads are doing in hedge funds when they should be spearhaeding technology for which they were trained at enormous expense to taxpayers.End of the day, these guys are a bunch of opportunists who will bolt State side the moment there is a slowdown here
RE:WHY IIT GRADS ARE RETURNING TO INDIA
by Reddy on May 15, 2008 10:21 AM
so what is wrong with going where opportunity is? live in reality man, opportunity is there, one who use it become rich, others dont get jack
my I am IT professional working for research group in australia. i left india because of the work culture and filthy office things happening at even small level.
when it comes to india and people say india is shining, i think we should say there are two type of india within india. one which is shinning and one which is not. shinning india consist of the middle class people in which parents had been able to provide some modest education to their kids and in turn kids got job with some good companies and earning and hence india is shinning. kids and parents are so excited that they are more enjoying the amount of salary getting, not looking at the cost of life which we are spending. may be it has just started.
the other india is poor india, which cannot make two ends meet daily. no food, no education, no health, no respect and only they are helpless.
the difference between poor and rich is increasing day by day.
now please consider following things. 1. What about the health security for all average earning indians. 2. what about the road sendse and road security. 3. What about the state machinery working and giving shelter when it is required. 4.where is no fear because of police. 5. Why goverment has no control over education. and how many can afford a good primary and secondary education which in first world everybody enjoys.
when i think of all these things. i think we are shinning in one direction only. its because we are providing cheap labor thats it.

That's right!!! there's no true equality among various class/sectors of citizens.
Education is just a business here. The fee structure differs in various schools (ofcourse, the quality also differs) but shouldn't there be a decent difference. Gov schools are pathetic with no or low infrastructure in most places. If kids are not educated in the right way, how can one expect the country to prosper.
However, instead of cribbing and running away from homeland, people could try and improve things here. No offense meant.

I am an Indian and staying in India. My major upcoming is in Pharma / IT domain. Do you know that only 40 % population of India can afford right medical facilities. Can you find a hospital or medical shop in rural India. To get medical facility one has to travel miles. He may not afford bus fair. This is our india. I agree with Jatinder. India is only shining amongst 35 to 40 % population only. Even then that number ( 40 crore people )is higher than most of countries total population. So India is great.
What would happen to those 60 % . would leave them to die and perish. That is how India is most under developed country in the world.

India is not yet shining. It is on its way. True, the Brand India is currently over rated. But to think about it, India is surely prospering.
Let me answer the questions you have asked.
1. India is quite cheap compared to US in quality healthcare. Here, you can get a good doctor's advice for Rs. 40, which is roughly 1 $. More and more people are turning to Insurance.
2. Roads have improved a lot since you left. Raod safety has nothing to do with development, but accidents here are much fewer than in US, despite the chaotic traffic.
3. India is the only country that provides monetary benefit during natural calamity. While Disaster management is non-existent, we are not doing very bad in it either. 4. States like Tamil Nadu, Kerala have excellent law and order situation. 5. It has improved a lot. Indian education is far more advanced than US/South Africa...and this is something I heard from people who were studying there but had to take a demotion because they just couldn't understand what was being taught. If the education is good enough for people like you and several others to get a job abroad, it is damn good education we have.
Yes, we are succeeding because of cheap labour, but the point is we CAN shine elsewhere too.
