it is funny to know that most of the people mentioned here are into management/finances. The reality is that doing research in INdia is still very hard. It is very rare for a top IITian to become a prof in Indian university rather than an american university. Usually every engineering dept in the top US schools will have a minimum of 2-3 indians ( in some cases much more). Howver, less than 1% of such guys (who are capable of being a prof in a top US school) come back to India to work. From what I have seen, some people do come, but quit and go back after being fed up with the beuracracy and disinterest for research in general.

ok, I am getting back. GOD! PLEASE GIVE ME THE POWER TO CLOSE THE BROWSER!!!!
All these IIT passouts are working in finance. At the first place why they blocked seats of other aspirants wanted to become engineers,no question of whether sc/st /obc/upper class. As IIT education is subsidised as compared to education in america because NATION pays for it ,why should they go to us /uk without paying back to NATION ?

I agree with you friends... These creatures should not be allowed to come back to india.. They learn on our khun pasine ka kamai(ITax) on subsiderised cost of education from Indian government. When they pass out from our IITs they prefer to serve other countries just for earning $. We should ashamed on our top class so called brilliance, who dont have any regrets for their nation. Many of born talents dont get even chance to prove their brilliance. We should give more priorty in finding them and govt should make compulsory work for minimum 3 years in any of Indian Govt companies...

Mr.Kulkarni, You have hit the nail on the head.Unfortunately our social economy prevents us from seeing what I learnt and whether I contributed in the same field but lures us to see what I earn.So much talent is wasted, so many opportunities are lost for others.See the other example. So many enginneering colleges in India are churning out so many graduates who end up in call centres.

Most people in IIT are in IIT simply because they cracked an exam at an age where they dont even realize who they are and what they want in life...late teens....this is true for most fields.....
Many who do not get selected are the ones who have immense passion for engineering but dont get opportunity.......
Had everybody got what they had aspired to be in this world....we would have explored the SUN by now leave alone the MOON
Agreed IITs and IIMs have better brains. So what? You don't need 100 out of 100 in an exam to have a successful professional career or to lead a comfortable life.
Americans don't give a damn to these IITs and IIMs and everyone makes the same kind of money.
These people want to be treated "Something Special" because they have IIT or IIM degree and do not get enough recognition from in U.S. Some of them come back in search of recognition.
Note: You don't need 100 out of 100 in an exam to have successful professional career or to lead a comfortable life.

grapes are sour my dear isnt it ??
tho i agree tat it doesnt require iit or iim degrees to show ur qualities but at da same time we cant undermine the efforts tat these iit n iim grads have put in....most of them have earned their "Something Special" status tat ur talkin abt...

In USA Ivey League Schools have supirior placements. Cororate USA do differentiate between an MIT grad and a say Kentucky State Univ Grad.
Lets examine the real reason they are coming back; Yes its all there in the article. The grass is getting greener here in India. Wanting to be with the parents was there previously also, but now its become more easier with the luxury homes, private schools, better salaries etc available. Sorry guys, you are nothing but hypocrites. If the situation reversed, you are all going back. Thats for sure. Another thing before I close. I am a plus 2 education person. My father couldnt afford to sent me to IIT and IIM etc. But today with over 20 years of experience in many vast industries, I challenge any of IIM's or IIT's to a "Apprentice" style competition. You would last. I promise you that.

there is no such reason, this article is total waste and you are yet another "i-hate-IIT-becoz-i-cudn't-make-it" guy

HOW MUCH PEOPLE are plain jealous.....of NRI's can be seen.... If everybody wants to be like them why not try baby...instead of posting crap after crap.
Unlike in india, you stagnate in USA pretty soon. YOU DONT KEY SUCH SALARY hikes and promotions like in Inidan corporates.
So after sometime people lose motivation to work hard ....so in order to give more meaning to their life they are coming back.
Had money been the factor only....then in dollar conversion they have to be GM of a company to have that salary scale.
So, money is never an incentive to come back. Anyday they will earn less than that in USA EXCEPTTION ARE OF COURSE THEIR BUT GENERALLY THEY DONT

Hi Vinu, I agree with you on the reasons why IITs and IIMs are coming back. They feel that the grass is greener in India now. Actually, all the people who helped build India to what it is today should get the credit for that. I believe that people from the so called "ivy league universities" of India are essentially self-serving people working towards their own interests. Nothing wrong with that per se. But a moral highground should not be claimed when they are returning to India spotting an opportunity for growth and more money.
IITs were set up by the GOI for imparting the best of knowledge to the creamy layer of talented people so that, they in turn would help develop the country. However, more than a third preferred to settle down overseas due to (a) total disrespect for our own country (b) potential of high pay cheques. Many of them also went on to curse the Indian politicos & general atmosphere. While doing this, they simply forgot that the Indian Govt had, in the first place subsidised their education which can easily be termed as one of the best in the world hence, they owed a payback. Now some of the same guys are turning back to India simply because the opportunities in 'the land of opportunities' appear to have diminished & pay-cheques back home have turned better. GOI should beware of guys with such limited & vested interests who, tomorrow, can turn to some other promising destination should an opportunity arise. Our country has done & CAN & WILL KEEP DOING WELL without such opportunists.
RE:Why IIT Grads are returning to India?
by rajesh kumar on May 15, 2008 10:43 AM
money is only one reason to settle abroad. Main reason is bureaucratic hurdle in our country. our society is still alrgely fuedal in nature .here respectable person is one who has some short of power where official , money or social . no respect to talent. have you ever heard t hat universicty chanceller or professor is being callled for any inaugaration even if is for schhol. it will be done by politian, Administrativer office or police

U mean people like swati.Wats wrong with her, shez expressing her thought.Btw are IIT alumni
I am still not convinced that people wants to return to India for good, I have never seen before, I am not ruling out a person returning to India after 10 years from abroad also at a better package.when you goto office, you never know whether you will reach office or some politicians will be blocking the road, anything can happen here...
