I think a lot of people here have big problems with IITians, which is not surprising since these very same people would give an arm to get into IIT. If you have dum, slog it out and get in. Else claim to be OBC or Dalit or whatever and try to sneak in through the back door. If you can't manage that also, shut up.

Jobs in India
by Reshma Prasad on May 15, 2008 10:48 AM  | Hide replies

The topic is: Returning to India for Jobs.
So lets focus only factors influence job place.

Well, India is not still the super power. The big problems are : Reservations at job place and corruption and Horrible Governance.

After serving for a well known public sector for 10 years, I realized that people with lesser qualifications (than me) and with lesser experience are getting promotions. These are not based on merit but based on the reservations and quotas. It is not just me, many employees under 'merit' category remained where they are and juniors from 'reserved category' became the bosses. Why I have to serve India? So I left, and realized that there is a place for recognition, respect and of course the MONEY.

Along the same lines of thinking, many of batchmates from Indian Railways, have resigned and migrated to private sectors or to other countries. WHY???

Corruption is well known and omni-present in India.

Horrible governance: Our politicians want to divide people to castes, sub-castes. They champion populist politics. They do not know anything except the 'composition' of vote bank. Our foreign policies, EXIM policies, Agricultural and Industrial sectors have been spoiled and degraded over the years. The present growth (and also hype) is due to privatization. Our private sector has contributed mainly into this.

So, the world is out there - open to the able, stronger and positive outlookers. Just Enjoy, if you are talented. India looks much smaller then!!

BUT RUNNING ABROAD IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE SYSTEM EITHER.. ONE HAS TO FIGHT AGAINST ALL ODDS... ITS ALMOST LIKE FREEDOM STRUGGLE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE THINGS AT PROPER PLACE, IF YOU WANT A CLEAN SOCIETY, IF YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR FUTURE GENERATIONS BORN AND PROSPER IN INDIA.. BUT WHO WANTS TO DIE FOR THE COUNTRY... THATS WHY PEOPLE LEAVE THE COUNTRY...

Mahatma Gandhi came back to India when it was in worse condition. Why? Wasnt he having a better life in Africa? We all cant be like Gandhi, but we can try and improve the conditions here. all countries have corruption, some have at higher levels(US), some at all(India). Perspective is changing, we all need to contribute to it. Just cursing and sobbing on the issues doesnt resolve anything. We need to do whatever we can do, and hope for the best. If not us, then hopefully some future generation will reap the benefit, but losing hope is not the solution.

There is no need to crib on reservtions. There are many areas where you can prove yourself if you are really meritorious. Merit based on 'system' which is prevalent in India is not merit. Please dont be under impression that peopleare waiting for indians to go there and rescue them from so many ills. It is not. No one depends on 'meritorious indians'. They go there earn money and pose as is if they are running other countries. It is pitiable situation bred by Indian media. Why do you blame politicians for caste vote banks ? They are other ovte banks such as Ram mandir vote bank, ram sethu vote bank, anti muslim vote vote bak, burn thechurches vote bank. So many banks!!! So be happy and live your life to the hilt.

First of all hearty welcome to all my generation NRIs who chose to go abroad at that time. People like me who stayed in India after engineering graduation had seen this potential then. This is not Reverse Brain Drain. Rather it could be called "returned brains!". Hope this will inspire all NRIs as well.

Kittu, there are still enough people in this country who are pround of its culture and its traditions regardless of its shortcomings and have never felt the need to emigrate abroad; this neither a case of sour grapes nor jealousy, its only about revealing the true side of all these brilliant minds; who are now returning after opportunities in the US have dried up!

India - land of engineers and doctors
by apocalypto on May 15, 2008 10:40 AM

India is just another land of engineers and doctors. Indian people suffers from a brain drain (rather a brain wash) , and they think that only IT, Engineering and doctor profession will fetch you a lot. Eventhough it is correct upto certain level, ultimately it does not serve the purpose of nation building.

What will happen to food security if all fellows pursue an IT job or a financial carreer?

Its all because of the innumerable cheap universities and colleges propping up everywhere .

People have a dream in their mind and end up doing someother job which they dont like at all.

Whats Great in IITians coming back to India?
by srikanth on May 15, 2008 10:38 AM  | Hide replies

Yes whats great. They are there where the money is. Thats simple. Again not generalizing. Some %age. This is not just for IITians. Its not wrong to see places and earn some money, but comment on what others are doing which they have previously. Ok, if some great % of them are coming back. Good. For how long? Let us see. Keep track of them and you will know abt it. Dont just write anything rediff. This is a useless topic when u have several other more important issues than this.

I have been reading articles here. Most of them are crap.

Dont mind. Its my personal opinion.

You said it !
These people are not contributing in any way to enrichment of our national life.
They are but servants and agents of the white man who are participating in the loot of the natural wealth of their own country.
Their high education is of no good for the task of nation building. It is just a means to quick riches at the cost of impoverished masses.
The way they dress and the way they speak, are plain indicators of how they are mere imitiations of the white man.
