Have a look at some comments, there is more venom here than any
islam related article on rediff. Some people on this board are almost dark green with jealousy.

People who go abroad should never be accepted back as they are sick and tired of doing thier own work so they go back to India wher they get easy life style and earn pension money in dollars..........let them IIT'ans or any one.....these are selfish bunch of people....moreover they spoil the name of India when they are abroad and have the biggest attitude problem towards their own country men.

Hi Anand. I don't agree with you. You might be talking about a % of people, but it cannot be generalized as such. It is upto a person to decide which place is best for him/her and it should remain like this. If at all they have easy life style in abroad, they have earned it. Anyway, I do believe that rich people in India have a bigger attitude problem than these people. Plus, rich people in India have an easier life style as they have a number of servants too.

Nothing to be happy about
by amit verma on May 15, 2008 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

They are simply returning because opportunities in india are more than in US( or they think it will become so...)
Tomorrow if indian economy slows down and US's picks up they will again head for US.
So what is the big deal ...they simply cannot be relied upon ......!!!

I disagree with Amit. I think there is no harm in getting international experience. It helps to widen your perspective. Hence, if people are coming back after doing MS and working for a couple of years, there is nothing wrong with that. And when you talk about better oppurtunities, then that is anyways the fact of life. Won't you change your job if you get a better oppurtunity?

dear all,

sit back, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths....that will help you to get rid of jealously that is filled in you. THis is the cause of all the problems in india , not IITians going abroad or not.

Don't focus on these marginal trends and tom-tom that India is some big potential super-power. Just LOOK at the great Indian cities of Slumbai and Dilli..you'll think you are in interior Africa..super-power, what a joke..let India first become a decent place to live in, then let's talk about superpower status..bulls..t

Well, it's not a very well thought out article...it leans more towards the trends pertaining to North India, and particularly in the Finance and Management Consulting spaces.

The sad state of affairs is that while people are returning to India to join companies in the Financial Services industry, the same trend is hardly seen among the technology and IT industries.

And the worst part is that the visibility of the Financial sector is high these days thanks to the reverse boom effect that's seen in India, thanks to the snail-pace economy right now in the US, the same reason for the IT and Hi-Tech sectors being sidelined again.

I would suggest the writer to study these sectors and see for himself, before expressing matters of biased opinion, making unverified, baseless statements and passing unqualified judgements on subjects unknown to him, in the mass media.

Firefox and others... if they have not contributed to india while returning back means they were not contributing to US while they were working over there. if they helped US over there then they can help India in similar fashion. now they have returned to India they will start paying tax also. By paying Tax alone will not solve the problem. so many times i though myself not to pay the tax to govt and give it directly to the body who can really use the money to resolved the problem in the area. every time i hear a scam from a minister i feel my ax money gone waste. but as a salaried employee i don't have option but to give tax to feed the mouth of politicians. Just by paying tax is not showing that we seriously think to solve the problem. each point you raised in your post is valid. bu then to clean a dirty pot hole one need to enter into it. why you ppl expect that only NRIs has to come back and solve the problems for you. while we all ppl sitting over here for years couldn't solve the problem. why we expect miracles from others. why we look for a complete makeover. why can't we start little by little. are we waiting for an revolution??

You moron, how much do people from your neighbourhood arts and science colleges contribute to India? How much have you yourself contributed? Is 'contributing' to India the duty of IITians alone? And as for being 'selfish', tell me which Indian is not selfish? Everybody here thinks of his own interests first.

No hard feelings, but at least we are paying the tax to Indian Govt. All IIT/IIM guys take the knowledge from India and work for the benefits of foreign countries. And the keep giving suggestions on the message boards like this that India should improve the infrastructure, corruption should be under check and population should be reduced, pollution in India is very high, my son cannot drink regular water in India blah blah blah..
