Vaguely remember going to a fuel pump in late 70's with my uncle. We filled 20 ltrs. petrol for Rs.140/-( Per ltr. Rs.7/-) .I remember filling fuel in my Bajaj Chetak at Rs.20/- per litre in Engineering college. ( Early 90's.)When I bought my first diesel Amby in 1997, diesel was Rs.9/- ( Rs.100 used to give me over 11 litres of diesel, and over a week of fun driving.)

I PURCHASED PETROL @15 ANNAS ie 94 PAISE IN THE YERR 1967 WHEN I FIRST JOINED AS BLOCK MEDICAL OFFICER DR R C PRASAD DEOGHAR
What happened to Ramar Pillai? I heard earlier he was making petrol from herbs and water. He was supposed to sell at 50 paise per litre or something. That had to be the cheapest, I guess.
When I purchased my first Lambretta scooter in August,1968, I used to get about 5.2 litres in Rs.5/- only i.e. less than a rupee a litre. In 1884 when I returned from Germany I used to get it 3.2 litres for Rs.20/-only which is just Rs.6.25 a litre.I have kept a record of my fillings in a diary for my scooter as well as my car,but no body stops driving. In 2002 in USA the rate was $1.45 a gallon and today it is $4.40 a gallon but people are still driving. Well may be some dream day we have vehicles to run on air,but we wont be happy as we expect everything free of cost without paying taxes to Govt. and stealing electricity/water etc.Alas we cant steal petrol.

I will remember your age!
This is a good way to know how old the people are, esp these guys swearing and fighting and writing all sorts of crap in this forum!!!
i thought only educated use computers and therefore will behave properly! but the way this forum is being used, damn it, it will take another 3 generations to see the India I have in my dream! Free from religion, caste, colour, north-south, quotas, etc.
I was owning a Lambretta in 1969 in Bangalore. The price I paid then was .60ps per litre. Bangalore has the highest price for petrol then u can well inmagine the price in other cities.

I remember we have vespa scooter 1962 model and still that is with us in good condition then we shift it from Bhopal to Delhi. From New Delhi station after recevied from goods area outside require some petrol and one three wheeler auto just provide us free of charge then we purchse petrol @ 63 Paise a ltre.
I remember I was in class six then, 1972, at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and I used to be driven to school in a Standard Herald. There were days when I was given some money to get some gas. A five rupee note used to get us five litres @93 paise per litre. This is the lowest I have paid for petrol. I used to be left with some change. I used to feast on a plate of samosas and a bottle of Coke with that change. A samosa cost five paise and a bottle of Coke was a measly twenty five paise. A samosa costs five rupees today - up 100 times; a bottle of Coke ten rupees - up forty times; and a litre of petrol more than fifty rupees - up fifty five times! There should be an agitation to bring the price of samosas down to about two and a half rupees, but that would be impossible because the price of petrol and diesel impacts the price of aloo in samosa. We may be looking at days when we would be cycling or walking if not hailing a tonga to be ferried to the market place. Pollution levels will surely come down and so will road rage and congestion. People may still fight over not letting his cycle pass yours or scratching the fender of his new designer bike (bicycle). Tata Bicycles, Bajaj Cycles, Maruti Cycles will give a run for their money to Hero, Atlas and other brands. Shahrukh Khan will be the brand ambassador for Hyundai Cycles. ICICI Bank will set a record for bicycle finance. Bicycle parkings will have modern amenities like tyre inflators, puncture repairs, lounge etc. Jai UPA!

Government must provide FREE Public Transportation across India to all its Citizens. This will 1. Reduce demand on Oil. 2. Reduce Inflation 3. Save foreign exchange on Oil imports
Oil consumption = 2.438 million bbl/day (2005 est.) Oil imports = 2.098 million bbl/day (2004 est.)
While in Poona during Apr 1974, I had a Lambretta-tank capacity around 7.35 litres(if I remember this figure right). I took the sccoter ,with tank almost empty,to the petrol bunk and asked the assistant to fill up the tank .I gave him Rs 10/ ,he returned Rs 1 /and a couple of nayapaise.
