If you are NRI for more than 6 months and when you are paying tax in the country you are, you need not file returns here.

Firstly, Thank you for your response.
She just has interest income and family pension. Or do you mean either of the form can be filled.

Dear Vinay,

I stay at Indirapuram (NCR) and work in Delhi. I have been filing my returns in Delhi. However this year when my CA went to the ITO to file the return, he has been informed that I should file the return in the ITO in Ghaziabad. Also he said there is new notification issued by the IT dept on this matter.

Is it true? Please help

Digital Signature: Do we need to get it separately?
by ahsan shaikh iqbal on Jul 07, 2008 04:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Does anyone have any idea about the Digital Signature bit. I thought we just needed to download the form and after filling it up, just upload it back to the site. My employer has provided us with a soft copy of our Form 16 and a Digital Signature as well. Does that count or do I need a new DS?

No. It does not help. You have to get a digital signature from authorized service providers (like TCS). However, it is an expensive proposition and the certificate has to be renewed annually. Best option would be to file your return electronically, print the electronic acknowledgment form and get it endorsed by the nearest IT office

I regularly file my return since past 10 years. I was a salaried employee till February 2008. I joined a firm as a consultant since March 2008. I have Form 16 from my employee till Feb 2008. I have two querries: 1. Which form should I fill for Income Tax return? 2. I have paid advance tax for March 2008. Should I include the consultation fee in the Salaries and calculate the tax return? Awaiting your reply,

Is it a sales promotion ?
by SK2007 on Jul 07, 2008 03:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I don't understand why rediff gives these types articles to do sales promotion business of IT filing. At least few 1000's would visit these sites and they make a killing ouyt of this. These sites won't advice you to compute your liabilities correctly. They simply file and collect the charges.
Some one is trying to take away the earnings of professionls. What they don't understand is tax professional is not there to just file tax returns. Their job is to advice the clients of the complexities of tax law and give a right advice. You need experience and knowledge to do this job. It is not just cut and paste job.!!!, for which companies are paying through their nose.

Tax filing
by Manoja on Jul 07, 2008 02:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Across all cities, there are a number of CAs and audit consultants, who could file your tax returns at a fraction of the cost charged by these online filing agencies. Plus the biggest advantage is that the CA/Audit consultant will take care of all the filling of the form and filing the same with the ITO.

With online filing, you are doing all the work by yourself and still end up paying agencies like tax smile etc a hefty sum of money. I mean, when you are paying the money, you expect someone else to take care of your work load. Right?
