After reading all the ten messages given below where every one talks for and against RT, one thing is clear from my own experience at Noida and the story of Lord Shiva & Parvati where she wanted the lord to make everyone rich which initially he was reluctant as he felt disparity of wealth is a must. However on her insistence he relented. Meanwhile a storm brewed and the wind blew and snow and sleet came pouring in through the door. The Lady called out to the proverbial 'Ramu' the help who never came because he had become wealthy and did not need to work. In Noida one sees exactly that - I have seen parents of those families who have given good compensations for land acquisitions by the government and who are virtually in tears when you ask them about how they are. They say money is no issue but their children have been ruined by the wealth. The sons lie drunk in the middle of the day in some back room of their palatial house in Noida only and doing nothing as they feel they do not need to do anything. Rather sad and unfortunate. Give that much that the farmer can handle not beyond that or it would ruin him. I think Haryana has started a good precedent where a certain amount is to be paid per acre to the farmer for the next 30 years - why cannot other governments emulate that. Ratan Tata is great to the extent that he does not bow down on his principles and is willing to loose out to others such as Reliance as he basically remains honest in what he does. All the best.

Reliance is different story freind. Jo log paise ke liye apne bhai ko tak nahi chhodte woh dusronko kya chhodenge. We should not compair saints with thieves.

I agree with you - Reliance may have been a bad example but your point is made but if one goes back to the the fifties when Reliance did not even exist the Tatas were not allowed by the government to make the Mercedes Car in 1960 - then it was the Birlas who had the Ambassodor, or it was the Fiat with the Kilachands. More recently the Singapore Airlines case and a whole host of others. It is a case of a whole life time of the Tatas and one can keep counting - yet he has beaten them all where all others who were in the first ten at one time with the Birlas and the Tatas such as Modis, Shrirams, Mafatlals, Sarabhais, JKs are no where in the competition today. But I was very happy to read what you have written as we need to move the honesty baton forward or we are sunk in this country - the message below speaks of it. With best wishes.
A few simple and clear issues are possibly being pushed to the backyard in the political storm kicked off by the dream car factory at Singur. Can any sensible person guarantee that for a particular land acquisition attempt by the govt all owners of the land pieces will agree to part with his/her land willingly? Possibly not-as otherwise the history of civilisation would have been written differently. The giant factories, dams, wide modern highways, rail links would not have seen the light of the day if the govt waited for all affected landowners to wiillingly sell their land for the public purposes concerned. At Singur, more than 12,000 landowners have collected their cheques and about 2000 people are still unwilling to hand over their land. Some portions of the acquired land are covered by ownership controversies resulting in hold-up of the cheques. West Bengal's sufferings started with the partition of Bengal and the people who migrated from East Pakistan were shabbily treated by the central govt.Except a handful of showpieces like Durgapur Steel and CLW, the central govt systematically deprived WB in the matter of industrialisation by refusing industrial licences. Now CM Buddhadeb is earnestly trying to recover the lost ground and rightly using his authority to grant special concessions for attracting industrialists like Tatas, Jindals, etc. The Trinamool Congress with indirect encouragememnt from the INC is desperate to nullify the efforts-this must be opposed.
The words of Ratan Tata indicates the True Parsi heart which you will not find in other businessmen. It is always good to work for people like Ratan Naval Tata
Ratan Tata's achievements and honours at home and abroad are outstanding. In March 2006 Tata was honoured by Cornell University as the 26th Robert S. Hatfield Fellow in Economic Education, considered the highest honor the university awards to distinguished individuals from the corporate sector. Ratan Tata's foreign affiliations include membership of the international advisory boards of the Mitsubishi Corporation, the American International Group, JP Morgan Chase and Booz Allen Hamilton. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the RAND Corporation, University of Southern California and of his alma mater, Cornell University. He also serves as a board member on the Republic of South Africa's International Investment Council and is an Asia-Pacific advisory committee member for the New York Stock Exchange. Tata is on the board of governors of the East-West Center, the advisory board of RAND's Center for Asia Pacific Policy and serves on the programme board of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's India AIDS initiative. In February 2004, Ratan Tata was conferred the title of honorary economic advisor to Hangzhou city in the Zhejiang province of China. He recently received an honorary doctorate from the London School of Economics and was listed among the 25 most powerful people in business named by Fortune magazine in November 2007. In May 2008 Mr Tata made it to the Time magazine's 2008 list of the World's 100 most Influential people.
Tata cares for his buisness only. Tata now refuses to give a job to the next kin of his retired employee at various companies at Jamshedpur, now in Jharkhand. Tata's presence in West Bengal can not bring more industries in Bengal. Why then Bihar/Jharkhand are in so poor state? West Bengal will have more industries if trade unions change their attitude ie their leaders sincerely work along with their associates for the betterment of their industries , Infra-structures are improved, Produce more electricity(now there is long time load-shading throughout West bengal). Where there is no work culture in Govt hospitals, Public transports, Municiple corporations , Govt schools and all Govt undertaking firms are mostly sick , West Bengal govt wants TATA as a sign board of industrialisation. Let them take early action to improve work culture and Infrastructures many industries will come to West Bengal automatically as there is no dearth of skill workers.
I was watching a bengali news channel on sunday, where they were telecasting Ms.Banerji's rally in singur live. The lady was accompanied by Amar Singh, who earlier wanted the Tatas to consider UP, when Mayawati was leading opposition. Also present was Mr.Somen Mitra, who a few months back was Mamata's political rival as WB State Congress chief, before leaving Congress and forming his own party, and joining Mamata in her anti-government/pro-farmer movement. I watched Ms.Medha Patkar delivering a fiery speech in her inimitable style, comparing the struggle in Singur with the Narmada movement. Ms.Banerjee was telling the crowd about her mobile phone connection(given by Parliament) being weak or unavailable in Singur, something she thought "deliberately" done by CPI(M)so that she cannot contact anyone (hmmm!!).She is presently holding her ground on 400 acres of land, which she says belong to some unwilling farmers, and should be returned. It was earlier 1000 acres, but she has "considered" state interest and now bargaining for only 400. She also pointed out that alternative land is readily available, but currently occupied by authority-backed goons and promoters. Ms.Banerjee is a senior politician, so is Mr.Bhattacharjee, CM of WB, I am sure both want the state to progress. We Bengalis are emotional people,so don't mind my emotions...sitting here in Maharashtra, I can feel Durgapuja's coming...I can feel the despair that young people like me go through when we have to go to oth

I think TATA should move from Singur and find some other place. That would be the answer for Maharani Mamta Banerjee. Who never did even a single thing in a favor of people. She is selfish and now Mr. Tata has said that they would move from Singur and Mamta is also changing her words. Earlier she want the whole 1000 acres now she has come to 400 acres. Whether Tata move or stay in Singur in both the cases Mamta will be a loser.

I have worked for a small Tata subsidiary for a couple of years in Tata Centre, Kolkata. It was my first job, which I had to leave to pursue my studies. Remembering those two years in Tata Centre, I can confirm one thing which Mr.Tata has pointed out : to the Tatas, their employee security and well-being are always important. If these words came from anyone else, I would have considered them to be reqular "press quotes".

YOU HAVE TO GO TO OTHER STATES TO WORK SINCE TATAS HAVE NOT OPENED ANY INDUSTRY IN WEST BENGAL IN THE LAST 100 YEARS OF THEIR COMPANY'S HISTORY. THE CPM HAS CLOSED DOWN 55000 INDUSTRIES IN WEST BENGAL. AND NOW ANOTHER 55000 HAS BEEN RENDERED JOBLESS DUE TO THE SINGUR PROJECT. THE ONLY BENEFICIARY WILL BE TATAS AND THE PARTY WHICH HAS GOT THE FUNDS FROM THEM. THE TATAS HAVE ALSO GOT 650 ACRES IN RAJARHAT FOR REAL ESTATE WHY????? BIHAR AND JHARKAND HAS GIVEN ITS WEALTH TO THE TATAS BUT HAVE THEY BECOME RICH AND WEALTHY STAES. NO THEY HAVE THEIR HEAD OFFICE IN MUMBAI NOT IN JAMSHEDPUR. PEOPLE IN JAMSHEDPUR WERE HAPPY WITH THE TATA'S TILL THE TIME I WORKED THERE IN THE SEVENTIES. I DO NOT KNOW HOW HAPPY THEY ARE NOW WITH THE TATAS. BUT I KNOW THAT I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE TATA INDICOM BROADBAND CONNECTION WHICH WAS INOPERATIVE FOR THREE MONTHS OUT OF THE SIX MONTHS CONTRATC PERIOD. NO MONEY WAS REFUNDED. THE TTATA MOTORS FINANCE IS ONE OF THE WORST IN EFFICIENCY AS THEY COME TO MY HOUSE EVERY MONTH AND ASK ME IF THE POST DATED CHEQUE HAS BEEN ENCASHED EVEN IF IT HAS ALREADY BEEN ENCASHED. RATAN TATA IS NOT WORTH THE SEAT HE OCCUPIES AS HE IS NOT A VISIONAY. ANYONE WITH SO MUCH RESOURCES AND MONEY IN HAND COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB. I FOR ONE KNOW RUSSI MODY WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EXCELLENT CHAIRMAN AND WOULD HAVE SURPASSED RATAN TATA AND THE SINGUR LOGJAM WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURED.

Industry needs infrastructure...there is no denying that the left-led administration has done nothing for infrastructure in the state. If we are to look back, there is hopelessness, despair everywhere under the CPI(M) regime. I don't think its very important to belong to any political ideology (when there is hardly any to follow these days)for development. It can be any party, any corporate,as long as the state advances.
In all the controversy , every body is forgetting the poor farmer, who does not have an internet connection to voice his concerns. If Tata can invest 2000 crore on the project, why cant they pay the market cost to the farmers.
Even allover india Govts. are looting the poor people all ends, it happened in Haryana, It happened in Noida, Greater Noida, and where not. Many major industrialists are making 1000's crore from Orissa, Jharkhand, but both these states continue to the poorest of all. Industrialisation does not really make people grow, over last 5-10 it has helped rich make more and more money.

i think u r a frustrated person. industry need for socio-economic development and growth of the state as well as the country. Mind it,we dnt have any job in the Govt sector, so we shud have to go for private job.In this unempolyment era, if 1 person get job in any industry it saves at least 6 pple of the objects house. and mind it, a farmers son or daughter, is he or she has no rightfr persue higher education/technical education or any professional education? what de ll do after their education...cultivation?? rediculous !!!! U pple want to dominate some pple (i.e; Farmers)a certain society stiil in this globalisation.
any way, Good politics can provide Good Food, bt the Mamatas politics giving the dark nothing else. if i ud b there, i ud hve burgain with govt , and instead of dt 400acrs land, i ud compell the govt to give alternative land and actual cost (Market Price Or whatever else)of tht previous Land atlst 1 generation job.
its the only the wise solution shud b for negotiation.
Now She (Mamata) looking towards the Perliamentry election , nt for actual benefit of the cultivators.
