Prof R K Gupta-India
With due resp4ect to entrep[renuers of 60s and 70s
by Prof R K Gupta-India on May 13, 2007 08:18 PM  | Hide replies

Sir,
I don't mean any disrepect to any body. But truth must be told. All these stories of great businessmen of past are exagerations.Fact remains that these greedy and cunning people led by marwari( I am actually ,marwari) and gujarati businessmen thrived on license raj and permit system, scarcity of goods, chamchagiri of small and big time politicians, profiteering and exploitation of labor and produced extremly poor quality of goods knowing fully well that they are breaking technical codes. They ill-treated engineers and commercial employees equally bad (in fact never took them a sresource),poluutred environment shamelssly and made huge profits through cartelling, selling substandard goods, cheating customers and corruption and bribes to dirty politicians (mostly congress party)I have been working with several industrial houses and have been regularly dealing with top shots of more than 3000 companies in India betweem 1973 and 1990 and very well know how indian system developed and how bonelss and corrupt and exploiters these petty businessmen were including big names we rever now adays, barring some first generation entreprenuers who started in late eighties or nineties.
S0 forget about stunning MNCs etc.The foundation of most of Indian businessmen is in corruption, bribery, exploitation of labor and work force, poor quality and cheating customers and governments alike. My statements should betaken seriously since I, as executive have been associated with indian industry of all color and hue from 1973 to 1998 including public sector.Let us stopping praising ourselves. Indians are having no match in corruption, cheating and poor quality and exploitatuion anywhere in world.

It is time Indian consumers come together and demand redressal of last 50 years of continuous cheating and exploitation by indian industry and traders (more degraded than manufacturers)as all laws including consumer protection act have failed and no one gives a damn about these. There is hardly any compeition in any industryevenb today despite the opposite picture painetd in poorly written finances articles in magazines.Luike publicity by film stars.Indian businessmen need to be discipliend and so the bureacrats who are almost crimninals in this country.Like hungrypigs the indian bureacracy, polticians and businessmen have been sucking blood of indian public since last 60 years,.Now it is free for all in name of Liberalisation and globalisation. What we have liberalsied and what we have globalsied anyway?

Prof Gupta seems to be a very frustrated sole - may be he has his reasons and may be a lot of indian businessmen must have worked as he says. However, to doubt Dr Gharda's integrity without any substantial data is unfair. What a pity! Didn't we hear about crabs.....

All the qualities you mentioned make great bussinesses. Don't blame indian bussinessmen for the problems in life.
I would rather spend my money on Indian stuff rather than foreign even if I pay a rupee more.

Great person!
by james chacko on May 13, 2007 03:49 PM

I really find it hard to express the immenses inspiration i get reading this particular Article. Though, i haven't heard of Dr. Keki Gharda (as i'm not a vivid reader), but after knowing him through this article, it seems that as if my whole confidence has come to life again. Definitely, god needed Dr. Keki to express the virtue of humility and defiance.

This way of your life indeed will motivate me, apart from the Holy books that i read to live in this world as i wish to live in a simple and strong way and not get succummed to wrong way of earning wealth.

I really laughed at your replies and one liners.

God bless you with the wisdom, so that you be happy with the decsision you may take and reflects your heart's desire, and that the Trust or the Heir you anoint may always bring you a smile no matter you are in Earth or not in Earth.

Best wishes & Love

honest people are there of course !
by Raj on May 13, 2007 02:31 PM  | Hide replies

Respected Sir,

I bow to your honesty and May God bless you with all your desires to come true. As your mother said, earn as much as you can in an honest way, but die poor, wow, what a great saying. Human values exist still due to very minority people are more than honest and a belief of playing with your own money and not with other's money. But its unfortunate, majority of the business oflate runs on OPM (Other people's Money). Nice to know you through this article and certainly you are conveying strong messages for sure.

keki...the complete man?
by faiz ahmed siddiqui on May 13, 2007 02:22 PM  | Hide replies

keki remindz me of zomeone when he zayz he likez to tell it like it iz - to hiz profezzorz, etc. which getz him the natural zcawl. Well actually he remindz me of myzelf. But i dont think the attitude iz healthy. If one iz too direct people dont like it and az he zayz itz natural. But in our livez people matter zpecially our family thiz iz what makez uz indianz different. like the man zaid - a man who doez not zpend time with hiz family iz not a complete man - who waz it....may be Don Corleon. Zo I think Keki zhould make up with hiz family and become a complete man...give them all he haz including hiz wizdom and phelozophy and let them chooze...but loozing them will make him lezz of a giant that he really iz...
