Taxing ESOP : a right move
by kedar tonapi on Feb 28, 2007 09:01 PM  | Hide replies

ESOP under FBT:
Anything given in a form which tantamounts to salary has to be taxed either directly or through the FBT route. So it is right to tax it under FBT.
DDT:
I think it is a really bad move. The basic corporate tax itself is high at 33.66%.After having paid such huge chunk to govt, expecting the corporates to shed another 15% on dividend distribution tax is unfair. It was unfair at 12.5% itself.
MAT(min alternate tax) for IT companies:
I think it is time IT companies start feeding the exchequer.Ofcourse they are on the growth path and they need more money for expansion.
But the Govt also has to be capable of providing all the necessary ifrastructure for complementing that and the money has to come from that sector too.

Feeding is one thing, being bled to death is another. If the govt provided the infrastrcture, nobody would say a word. This govt just seems intent on pocketing all the money, without actually spending it where it is required. Just milking a cow until it starts giving blood is plain idiocy. Looks like a case of 'Just because they can be raped, let them be raped further'...

Budget
by N on Feb 28, 2007 08:54 PM

I think PC should be sacked as finance minister. The so called dream team of FM and PM has done no good to anyone. IT professionals earn money and tax is deducted at source but still they want to tax the industry. The governent did nothing for the growth of India. Our growth is not planned by some visionary leader it happend by luck and to some extent hard work of few people who had little or no support from government. The least the government is supposed to do is facilitate industries and provide conducive environment and not keep taxing people. The service tax is around 15% then there is VAT and then education cess over and above income tax and then these people pretend as if they are concerned about inflation and price etc.
PC is hopeless finance minister he should be sacked. We should reduce tax and increase the number of people paying taxes. All he is doing is increasing taxes.

Well said Umashankar! A lot of disgruntled people! everybody should be happy! India should become Utopia. More than half the people here do not know the finer details of the budget. none have administrative brains or courage. all they do is fill their coffers, enjoy life and then make rubbish comments on things they don't have profound knowledge of! we have the herd mentality. everybody says bad so u say it too!I expect a nonsense reply to this comment as well.

The Weirdest Budget till date
by varun mathure on Feb 28, 2007 08:50 PM

This has to be by far one of the weirdest budgets announced till date. And its absolute ineffectiveness is very evident with the fact that PC decided to increase the tax slab by a measly 10,000 bucks. I mean who is he kidding. If it would have been till 150,000 that is a 15% it would have retained some sensiblity. But that aside even all the other decisions seem to be really absurd. As if we aint giving enough for the non-existent education benefits for the needy he decides to increase it further by a percent. What the budget should have firmly looked at was the high inflation rates. PC has tried to do something about it but again not tried hard enough. And lastly the massive hits the markets have taken, though due in part to the global meltdown, just show us that this isn't going to be the most welcome budget of the times. PC should have taken a leaf out of Laloo's book and showed some character rather than behaving meekly the way he has.

This Government cannot control inflation. This government does not support infrastructure. Without Infrastructure this country can not progress. Government needs to learn from China. But Mr. Chidam doesn't seem to understand this. Maybe ... maybe its time to change this stupid government
