do you think only people earning crores every year are paying income tax ?!! when a salaried person in an urban area earning less than 1.5lakhs can pay tax, why can't farmers earning the same pay tax ?
the struggling farmer is a stereotype, but there are several exceptions to the rule and there's no reason not to tax the rich farmers. they can deduct their loan payments, and if they make less than 1.1lakhs p.a. after this, they'll anyway fall under the min income limit.
of course, i doubt this will happen because of the political fallout.

FM
has not given anything in relief to salaried people. comparatively to inflation& price rise the relief of rs.1000 is a joke. it is a very bad budget or to say no budget.

SERVICE CLASS, SHOW YOUR POWER OF VOTING!!
by anurag patel on Feb 28, 2007 07:29 PM  | Hide replies

When are we going to start thinking of e-voting. Then and then only there will be a say of the service class people being gang raped by imposing harder and harder taxes. When everywhere there are efforts to adopt power of IT, why not e-voting. Time for the InTelligent folks to scratch their heads.

well said Anurag. e-voting system should be implemented. It will save time, manpower, unnecessary queues on voting centers. Many salaried people who ignore their right of vote will go for voting due to this simplified method

Budget
by leonard dsouza on Feb 28, 2007 07:17 PM  | Hide replies

While overall yr budget looks good somehow year after year pensioners are ignored. Govt should issue Tax relief cards to all pensioners so that whatever they buy, they get at Factory rate on production of the card. These could be issued thru the pension distributing authority. pensioners do not get hike in DA as do Govt employees. Besides pensioners of private companies get a meagre pension of below 500. Pension levelk should also be made as minimum Rs 2500 so a person can exist.

I totally agree with u. But the Govt has different viewpoint for pensioners. They take pensioners as liability who are eating into their funds. Their is no social security for pensioners. I am sure that in the years to come the pension system will stop completely. U get paid till u do work. That is the long term thinking, Sir.

Hail Chidambaram
by Rajneesh Mehta on Feb 28, 2007 07:17 PM

God Save India. Now Chidu is double taxing the tax payers. Every Tax payer has to pay 3% Education cess. Maruti is increasing the prices to cater for the enhance education cess of 1%. In retrospect if I, a salaried person purchase a Maruti car i'll bepaying the education cess twice, once from my pay and one for Maruti udyog. this is just the begining. Wait and watch. Other manufacturers will also follow suit and increase the prices to cover the additional 1% cess. Long Live chidambaram. Achha befkoof banaya Aam Admi ko.
