IITs have build up its image in last few decades more from the students than the infrastructure. Its the competition that they faced and the procedure of selecting the best brains which helped in creating the brand. Yes new institutes must be given more funds and facilities but making them IIT dilutes the image that IITs have created.
MOON is known because of its exclusivity and so is the sun.The universe if full of billions of stars but SUN is one of its kind. SO lets not make SUN also one of the star and let it give all the light and energy forever
I do not think there is the need to built more IITs It will destroy its exclusiveness. Rather the infrasfructure of other colleges offering engineering courses should be improved.
For a student population of our size, some more IIT's are definitely needed. It encourages more competitiveness and more deserving students will become great scientists and make our INDIA one of the great third world countries.
We certainly need more no.of IITs.The argument that more no.of IITs dilute the quality is true then to improve the quality lets have only one IIT?But that cannot be the case .Premier educational institution are cannot be called so if they take the best people in the country and take credit for their performances. If they really have the quality they should be able to take an average student and make him the best.Above all its nations responsiblity to provide us with the best education .These institutes should cater to the needs of the nation.Whats the use if your premier institute can take only 4,000 odd students when the people competing for it are in lakhs. Is it not unfair?Atleast they should be able to catre to 40-50% of students.
I say more no. of IITs will not dilute the quality because aftre entering IITs let them have their strict evaluation and let them give the degree to only those who clear their tests and match their performance standards. This makes the competetion fair rather than keeping people away from the IITs.
Even before you take the students into IITs you talk of quality which is unfair. The institutes are there to teach them and make them better.
We don't need more iit's since, the iit's has to be funded heavily. this will neither help in R&D, as these are all maximum concentrating on engg and technology. very less science research is being done. India needs more research instt's rather than iit's. Even the latest declared iit's lack the standards.
