no.we don't need 12 IITs just for name sake.we should rely on quality rather than quantity.upgradation of RECs to IIT s will definitely dilute the kind of academic output IITs have given.instead of upgrading,if we improve the conditions in existing IITs, that would serve the purpose
of course not!more no. of IITs would only lower it's name .the newly made IIT -Guwhati is not even considered to be a good one as it was recently created.
Yes, certain increasing IITs will help in stoping the talent and brain drain. IIT has its own image not only in India but in abroad also like USA, Canada, Australia etc.It is a very good idea and we must try to open at least one IIT in each state of the country.
Yes. In view of the increased number of students taking the entrance tests and in the light of demand for 'knowledge workers' especially the 'technocrats'. IITs, with its infrastructure and brand name, can really give the necessary boost to the young and energitic minds of India. As the present IITs are inadequate to cater to the existing pool of best brains to be trained and tuned, more IITs do not imply dilution in the educational standards. On the other hand by not creating adequate opportunities in that direction we are actually underutilising our most powerful resources - human resource.
no way. it spoils the excitement. it makes it easier to get into an iit. in a way, it does dilute the whole thing altogether. raising the standard of other colleges is absolutely fine, but converting them into iits is not
It doesnt mean that we have only those many capable people as many seats are available in these IITs. It would be nice to accomodate more people. But care should be taken to maintain or even enhance the quality of education we get in these new IITs. I think the decision of targeting RECs for conversion is a good one. Hope it is a success.
