we need more institutions
by vineet on Oct 20, 2003 11:34 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i am a graduate students at Univ of Louisiana at lafayette, usa. i did my b tech from IT BHU varanasi. i am keeping watch on indian education past 6 years and i am really glad to see the development in this direction. in india we feel so much pressure from international financial organizations to reduce poverty, work labour and illitracy so we reduce our standards. we ended up with educated but unskilled young generation. this is undoubtably true that india need good educational institute. a good young generation can change the scene. sometime people says IIT'ans goes to us and other country....to serve them..i'd say that is the problem with working environment in india...u improve that and they will stay here.....stoping the development of good institute is not going to help anyway.

education can bring so much changes in india...plz dont stop it

NO NOT ALL
by Vikash Kumar on Oct 20, 2003 11:28 PM  Permalink

i m sure adding suddenly too many other institutes with IIT brand name wouldn't help. But yes.. adding a new IIT the ways it has been evolved is fine.

increasing the number will only increase the chaos.

and why is the government interested in calling them IITs. Can't simply they improve the infrastructure and resources of other institutes and then let them compete with IITs...

May be a better brand than IIT come up ?

It is stupid
by bhanu prasa on Oct 20, 2003 11:24 PM  Permalink

one thing,IIT students have sharp brains, but that does not mean a great intellect.intellect and brightness are quite different.Morever IIT's are creating more and more employees but not a single Ramanujan. So extending would be to produce more labourers for MNC'S.I would plead the govt to set up arts colleges,Science colleges.Settin up IIT's is a mere waste of time

by Nitni on Oct 20, 2003 11:22 PM  Permalink

This is last thing that politicals people can do.

The leaders who don't even know the abcd of Technical education is deciding the future of IIT.

What the hell?

Plzz Quality matter not quantity..

Is there any intelligent person in Indian government who can stop this?

Nothing Special with IIT's
by D.S.Chandra Sekhar on Oct 20, 2003 11:20 PM  Permalink

I, being an IIT student want to convey my experience at the institute. IIT has got its name and fame bcoz people here are made to work hard and they pull the excellence from inside. This can be done only by creative faculty who can inspire and make the students work hard inspite of the "Student's Syndrome" with all the abundant resources he has given with. The presence of such faculty will make any institute equal to IIT and it is on this basis that a college should be given IIT status.

iits are the best and should be forever
by rag on Oct 20, 2003 11:01 PM  Permalink

iits stand for intellect infrastructure and technology. adding more iits is a really good idea as it gives many aspirants a chance to realise their aim of getting top classs education and being at the forefront of technology. but the high standards that gave iit its fame must be meticulously followed and ,students and faculty should be filtered at every step such that only meritorious and worthy are only selected.

Well actually it doesnt matter
by ABC on Oct 20, 2003 10:57 PM  Permalink

It actually does not matter whether you rename some RECs as IITs. IITs and RECs are anyway a class of their own. They are no doubt the best engineering schools of India and some of the very good all over the world. Whereas most IITs are awesome, some RECs like Trichy, Suratkhal, Allahabad, Bhopal and Warangal have shown their might as well. What we need is to bring out these schools as best and work towards their betterment. These RECs did an awesome job even when they were not named NITs/IITs. So what i basically think is that instead of having more IITs, the IITs, these few RECs, BITS etc should have a JEE(Joint entrance exam) and students may choose amongst these schools. This will put them at par(which they already are) and then they will get the best of Indian Students and then that will be fair as well.....so renaming.....just an unnecessary exercise.

More IIT's
by Rajneesh on Oct 20, 2003 10:48 PM  Permalink

Just by naming any engg. institute cant produce a brain that is known as IITian, it is good that if there will be more engg colleges like IITs then india will produce more quality engineers. so if govt. wants to do something good without its own interest then they should increase quality of other colleges rather than just naming other colleges IIIT, they can be known by their own names.
