no- sorry, this is political moove, just to please and get the cheap popularity, IITs means the cream of cream from the cream of the brain, when branded in diferent names, should in future be treated a old wine in new bottle of changed lebels. After all our poticians will not spare any sector of area wherein they allow education as purety, by making this up gradation moove , what could ebn collection from REC's?
In my opnion, what is the need to convert rec to iit. If they want to give more facilities to rec's then they could provide more funds , i dont think the name iit would fetch more advantage , but it will dilute iit atmosphere,as we all know tahat brand name sells , and in international market iit have a good reputation then what is the need to spoil that reputation. And if this step is due to the fact that the brand name will fetch other rec's jobs , then remember that campus placement from iit's is also not 1000% since last 4 years.
Definitely, increasing the number of IITs will spoil the reputation of the existing institutions.Just as too many cooks spoil the broth, augmenting IITs in number does not serve any useful purpose, except to give an opportunity to the less brainy/less fortunate aspirants to get a chance.
personally REC's dont match IIT's in many ways..IIT is reserach oriented and also it gets the best brains in the country..by making many of the REC's into IIT would be a disaster as IIT would loose it shine and past glory due to excessive outgoing students..adding a couple of IIT's wont be a bad idea..making it to 12 would certainly be
No, as the number of IITs increase the situation will be the same as that of Engg colleges. before IITs also there are some good engg colleges in our country now they became one among the other. Now if we increase the number of IITs the situation will be same they lost there Uniqueness. with this number only country will get the creamy layer of intelligents.
Let us keep IIT as a IIT and don't make more IITs , jsut think about 10-15 year back when we had few engineering collages at that time the quality of education were very good that what we have today. Now we can see private engineeting collages in every state but does it really making engineer now they just referring 20question book kind of thing to through the exam and looking for GRE , GMAT , if we make more IITs simplly the competetion will be reduced but do we really have the infrastructure to keep them in india ? Don't they think to fly after get into IIT. so let us think first how India Inc can sustain IITians into India and once when we get some +ve result than dear rediff post one more time this issue. We have good collages , we have good engineers but India Inc has to think about thier usage. I remember one day my management professor was telling in 19th the country having much money and resources will develope now india really needs Infrastructure to sustain the engineer and let us see india in the row of develop country fro this IITs is not much important. the important is to review the our policy. for that more engineer is not important important is how to keep them.
Mainly because of, our own, growing technological needs and increased population. Other reason is to go along with the rest of the world and keeping ahead of other developed nations, we need.
By increasing the Number of IITs from 7 to 12 it does'not dilute the quality. Our population has grown up 3 folds and technological requirements have increased many folds.
Instead of converting the existing Regional Engineering colleges to IITs, it is better to create new ones.
hey!!!!!! Have you heard about 12 MITs or Harvards or Princetons or Oxfords? Nooo but certainly there are many other excellent organisations in the respective countries. Increasing the no. of IITs just means that the USA plans to open up few more MITs for thesake of imparting technology to more people.NO way! Even if the govt wants to increase the no. of engineering student start some instituions that can stand high amongst the IITs . Simply creating more IITs doesnt mean that the people are gonna get quality education. You People can istead open institutes like the BITS etc which can become a brand in themselves. You just can have several AIIMS operating in our country !!! Common think properly..........
From an IITian. It's impossible to imagine that govt. plans to open more IITs when the existing ones are suffering due to the minima of world economy. Bygone are the days when being an iit scholar meant a lucrative job in a MNC. One has to cream up this degree with an MBA or GRE to look well equipped in modern era.
I believe the ultimate goal of every educational qualification is to make one independent (precisely financially). The present scenario & the aggravating problem among us youth in India is the scarcity of right kind of employment that corresponds to our educational qualification standards. Hence the event of opening new IITs must be followed by opening of equivalent job opportunities for the upcoming talent. This not only would retain the brain of our country but will also enhance faith of many Indian parents & children over Indian educational system.
