I think we need more IITs. Since we have 100 cores of people we must have more institution to train them. If it is of IIT standards then why not. Don't think this will reduce the dignity to existing ITT's. No body can reduce one Institution's dignity, if it keeps its qualiity.
No.........then Why dont we make our RECs as MIT and that will help more.what the govt should rather do, is to provide the same facilities to other RECs. Because govt can make new iits but how will it create top level minds who come to IIT after such tough competition. Moreover if you make all the universities of india as IIT that does not mean that every indian student will be that much genious as we are having with these 5 IITs.
The Basic need is that, instead of creating more IITians, can we bring those kind of standards to the schools, where everybody can think like an IITian.
Creation of more IIT's seems good from outside but if we look in depths, we'll find that we already have some which are nothing special apart from having the IIT stamp say IIT-Guwahati. Standard of education is not better if not less from other colleges. So making more IIT's will be more of a namesake rather than producing anything worthwhile.
yes,why not. it is very much necessary to make more IITs in india.india is in the most leading country in the field of IT.somore IITS will also be able to make the india no.1 in this field.i think the best option is to upgrade NITs into IITs.
Instead of raising status of existing REC to the level of IIT's, Govt can create the Industry oriented Institutes in the respective Locations for example Metallurgy at Calcutta and Coimbatore. Electrical and Auto Electrical Institutes at Coimbatore and Chennai. Petro chemical based studies at Chennai and Bombay. Plastics engineering at Chennai. Agriculture-Sugarcane at Maharashtra and Madurai. Mechanical Design centres at Chennai, Newdelhi and Bhopal. Alternative RawMaterial detection centre at Ahemadabad and Chennai. Silk and Hoiseries R & D centre at Kancheepuram and Banaras. Studies for Energy at Lucknow,Chennai and Pune. This will improve the candidates to get specialize in their area of subjects.
i think it is a very stupid decision. the intellectual level of the iits as well as the infrastructure is also going to fall and instead of having 2500 intelligent people we may have 5000 not-so-intelligent ones.
Well I would like to say that, Government should follow the strategy,"Doing things differently, rather than doing different things", as quoted by Shiv Khera, author of "You Can Win". Creating new IITs would be no big deal, it will only add up some Engineers in the service of Nations, and the rest will fly to their dream destinations US,UK, Canada, etc. Again a wastage of resources and manpower invested in nourishing the IIT breeds. Instead Gov. should create newer oppurtunities in the public sector area, in R&D, and should change the structure of recruitment. We can see the role of IITians in IAS, nowadays. What I believe personally is if given proper environment, and work culture, IITians can create a better India for tommorrow. This is all possible with the amount of IITs we have and the number of students who pass out.
