no
by ayush on Oct 21, 2003 08:03 PM  Permalink

we already have enough number of iits right now.

converting RECs to iit won't do any good .it would be simply like changing there name to IIT .upgradation of RECs would be a considerable step

it ia absolutely useless to upgrade rec into iit. attraction toward iit is due to less no. of seats. due to less no. of seats only good brains reach into iit. but when no. of students will increase, less efficient will reach in iit that will damage reputation if iit

QUALITY matters not QUANTITY

NO MORE IITs please

Just building doesn't mean an IIT. This must not happen .I ,at least am ready to compete for only 5 IITs rather than competing for more with a diluted standard.

NO!
by Sunanda on Oct 21, 2003 07:06 PM  Permalink

Calling these new colleges IIT would mean degrading the present standard of the IITs. It would be great to have more colleges which are as good as the IITs, but being in IIT would no longer mean that you are the best of the best, which the hallmark of an IITian. Give these colleges some other name.

It will Dilute the image of the IITs
by Indrajit on Oct 21, 2003 07:00 PM  Permalink

The IITs have built reputation over a long period of time. In addition to the facilities available, they can employ the best brains in the faculty and get the best brains as students due to this reputaion. Other RECs cannot become like the IITs just by adding some facilities. It will take a long time.

Suddenly converting some RECs will dilute the image of the RECs, at a point of time when the IITs are getting a global recognition, which helps the country earn foreign exchanges directly and indirectly.

Probably the nation stands to loose if this reputation is diluted. However as a long term goal this may be feasible under strict quality control w.r.t. the facilities, faculty, course content, publications, etc.

More No of IIt's
by Raj Kumar on Oct 21, 2003 06:55 PM  Permalink

Govt should think in such a way that it should provide the Qualitative Education but not Quantitative . Even now they wanted to provide ahe name IIT for some REC's.

Maintain the quality of the IIT's in Rec's also.

But incresing the no of IIt's doesn't help....

YES!!! Absolutely Correct..........

More IITs will help those who are unable to get admission due to lack of seats, unless they possess excellent knowledge and capability, i.e. they deserve IIT. This is the best decision the government is taking and it should be implemented as soon as possible so as to provide better future and excellent Engineer's to our country.

No dilution needed
by tokekar vc on Oct 21, 2003 06:43 PM  Permalink

Already the greedy politions have diluted the usefulness of Engineering Garduates by opening Sale of engineering degrees to highest bidder. I am appaled at the responses recieved in interviews by freshers.
By increasing the no of IITs we will be declaring a donkey a horse. THe donkey can not be horse just by calling him horse
