I beleive that however hard they try, they cannot make these colleges as good as IIT. Primarily because lack of good faculty. These days IITs have established a brand value and this should not be diluted by adding more of these institutes. They can start a new program for all these colleges which tries to make them better and if in some years they are in par with IIT standards then they should be called IITs.
increasing of iits dilute our education standards instead establish new institutes which are specially for master's and for research.... don't offer under graduate studies in newly established colleges those are totally for research purpose and name should be different other than iit
I feel that without upgrading the quality of faculty members and the infrastructural facilities a mere renaming of B grade institute will collectively damage the image of other IITs.Don't try to ride on the goodwill created through hard work by meritorious people in the original IITs.First deserve and then demand.
no,absolutely not, rather it's more important to concentrate on present institutes and increase their present education level, to provide more facilities to beat the world's best like MIT, HARVARD, OXFORD etc. because there is lot to be done for present institutes for making them no.1 and i believe, the more the number of colleges the more degradation occurs.
i think we should not increase the IIT's .instead we should increase the quality and bring them equally to M.I.T .after all it the difference b/n demand and supply ratio that makes IIT top.
There is an absolute need of increasing the number of IIT's, as the number of deserving students are also increasing. The infrastructural requirements of setting up a new IIT is very high and hence it is highly logical that some of the top NIT's be made the IIT's.
1. The Indian population is growing and more students are appearing for the IIT JEE. The number of seats are not growing proportionately.
2. The Indian industry is now competing with the rest of the world on quality and price. Lot of multinationals are setting shop in India. The demand for quality engineers is going to increase manifold.
3. India is spending on infrastructure and as time passes the snowball effect will be seen.
4. USA is struggling on the economic front and recessionary climate will reduce jobs. So the notion that all IITians will go to USA is history.
5. Our economy is one of the fastest growing ones in the world and can grow at the rate of 10% in future.
Now the cons
1. The Govt's finances are in a mess and it is considering stopping funds to the existing IITs???
How will it fund new IITs?
2. IITians are sought after because of their quality and not because of their tag.
Instead of renaming existing colleges it is better to improve their quality of teaching and examinations. Yes we should make them as good as the IITs. The name and fame will follow.
