It would one of the foolest decision of the government to increase number of IITs. The problem with the policy makers is that they do not know what IIT makes IIT. IITs are not because of their facilities and faculty but IITs are IITs because of students and the kind of interaction they have among themselves. Anyone who takes decision on IITs must understand the functioning and value addition aspects of IITs.
People have great misunderstanding about IITs. IIT students study the least among all institutions in India. Still they have something which sparkle in brightness of the world.
Anyway, IIT is loosing its value very fast. Whatever, charm one sees about IIT's are because of previous values of IITians.
It doesn't matter how good faculty IITs have. If students are not interested in study, no one can do any thing. Still IITians do well. Not only well but large number of places they have done the best. So, what is secret behind? It is the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) which plays the disc.
IITs are the only institutions where there is only and only merit cutting across caste, religion, region, langauge, reservations, donations, capitation, recommendations, etc.
IITs are the only avenue where a majority of midddle class citizens who are exceptionally intelligent and secure their addmissions after clearing the toughest of competitive exams and form the core of highest intelligence
Politicains you have already messed up the India on your personal short term objectives in various fields.
Please leave them alone.
Otherwise in a few years down the line India would have their best brains in productive use, would be filled with frustrated brains working negetively.
I am still confident that there may be still some percentage of politicains who would see a proper light and stop this messing up IITs at the bud stage itself
definetly, why not. as we need every thing more , day by day then why not more iits. not every person who reaches iit come out with flying colours and some students with rec or gec have very good result.every student dreams of iit first, but failing in iit is not the end, so having more iit will help industries to select the best from many options.
Let India atleast think of doing something good to professionals NOW!!.
IITs don't make professionals... They tame them...
Let Indian gov. fund every one who enter IIT for our betterment. Atleast not the funding,,,, Let all the primates in Indian Gov.... think in increasing the number of IIT's to 20, each having an unique spaciality......
I appreciate the thought of the induividual who had
Merely naming an institute as IIT would surely not serve the purpose. What is required is the upgradation of the facilities in the existing RECs, rather than changing their names. If an institute is at par with IIT, then it can prove its mettle even without the IIT tag, like TIFR & IISc. Research must be encouraged rather than only the professional courses like engnng., becaus development is impossible without a strong R&D platform.
There's definately a need of one or two IIT's but NO TO FIVE more IIT's.govt should increase the research facilities in specific areas at diff IIT's.And make otheres capable of producing IIT class alumni.
