well....IIT is not just a name, its a totally different world out there, and what separates it is the intellect of people who stay there...and its the environment which empowers them with the skill rather then orthodox engg studies at the institute...so just by giving regional colleges, the name of IIT....the purpose is not solved...coz as long as the intellect is not there, the environment is not there...and that means....no skill development of the order which is currently distinguishing IITians from normal graduates!
welll, being in a newly formed IIT which is an experiment of this strategy, i can say that this idea is nice, but, then it should be properly checked that the institute under consideration does not lack that much infrastructure or important constitutents of being a leading technical institutes. This can be determined by the reputation and assesing the present status of that institute in imparting technical education. However, it can be seen that since, it was not an IIT previously, so if there was lack of funds in that case, that was the only factor which was deterring its development.
Anybhow, it should always be nsured that the brand IIT does not loses its exclusiveness and charm, which will earn a bad name for this brand in abroad where, it valued much.
surely and strongly if quantity increses quality decreases.This is applicable to IITs too.if the no of IITs increases, on the whole,the exclusiveness of IITs will surely be diluted.
we must need more iits because at present when our industries and also our trade is groing in coming time we will need more and more engg's and more professionals so as to fulfill all this requirement and that only can be fulfilled by skilled enggs and it is what where iit is best.but, the government should also keep its concentration on existing engg colleges so that they can also improve their quality of education as iit is providing at present,otherwise new iit will also do nothing when they will not treated well.
In place of increasing the no of IITs we should try to improve infrastructers at the existing engg colleges as that would be more prfitable to the society in general beacause an average IIT student thinks only of USA.By doing this we would be helping thousands of engg students who are as good as there counterparts at IIT but just couldn't compete at JEE level with them. These students will be the real flagbearer of indian scene rather the one who think of other places.
