Qustions for all

more iits won't mean more quality education or more quality brains by itself... exactly what do we mean to achieve by increasing the number of iits?

- do the colleges as existing without the iit brand name think they can't do well?

- does the iit brand image hold good enough to attract the right faculty and infrastructure?

- do iits give due attention to research as is?

- by increasing the number of iits, will we be providing more funds to the increased number of facuklty for fruitful resaerch?

- is improvement in education what we are looking at?

OR

Are we trying to capitalise on, and hence dilute, the brand image of the IIT?

We need to look into the psyche which propounds quantity to compensate for quality

Do we REALLY need more IIT's
by Pallavi Gupta on Oct 23, 2003 03:46 AM  Permalink

Maybe we do, maybe we don't. The thing that makes IIT so disireable is the quality of education. If upgrading REC's to IIT's focuses on improving the quality of education to that of IIT , then maybe it is okay. Or is it that the REC's would just share the privilidged name and the reputation of IIT Colleges? In that case, we are certainly diluting the exclusiveness of IITians.

well everything is fine but i think we should increse the employment oppurtunities

increasing the iits will increase the unemployment rate because the recruitment rate will remain the same...

so the govt should leverage the jobs coz we already have a lot og engineers without job

no ways...there's no point to compromise with quality for quantity..IIT's will lose its effect not only in india, but all its charma will be lost even worldwide..they dont produce the best brains in the world, they nourish the best brains and help them develop..so a good brain will definitely make into iits if he has the calibre

No the number of these institutes should not be increased as they have there own exclusivity and reputation in the world market. Do America have no of Harwards University and like wise. There are already seven IIT's and they r enough to cater to the best brains in the country. If regional colleages will also be converted into IIT then I think the quality of education will not be the same as it is today. So increasing the number of IIT's should be strictly discouraged.People which r best in the field should get admitted there and there r enough seats for the best students as number of students who deserve IIT is also less. Its reputation and stature should be maintained so that we can depend on people who pass out from there. we wshould have the confidence that best quality education is provided to them.

Do we need more IITs?
by Brajesh on Oct 23, 2003 12:10 AM  Permalink

What's this ? Our politicos and planners have no sense of purpose or rational thinking process. Do we really want to excell or we want to kill the prestigious IITs?
It would unnecessarily dilute the quality associated with the IITs. Do we really want that to happen and let these bunch of jokers(politicos) run amok with the system and spoil what ever pride we have achieved through our brilliant institutions like IITs and IIMs.

i strongly oppose to increase the number of iits.if that is the scenario then the demand for the iits decrase .students wont be that enthusiastic as they are now for preparing for iits.
