i don't think we should have more IITs ....the exclusivity of IIT will be lost if we start opening IITs in every major state...state colleges do take care of respective states.
We definitely need more of such institutions in our country to carry forward the gains so far in today's knowledge based economy. A case to the point is the US education system. Each university has the autonomy unto itself to decide its own structure and education policies.
I feel that besides setting up more IIT's we also need to allow these institutions more leeway in managing the education they provide.
The wider base of such reputed institutes, the better will be the quality of the higher education in our country. Though, with this rosy picture comes the caveat that the quality cannot be allowed to dilute.
I dont think India has gained back sufficiently from IITs considering the funds that pour into it, and considering the IIT students who settle happily abroad serving foreign nations.I would actually recommend to close the existing IITs!!
Dilbert aside, it feels great to be an IIT alumnus. The IIT brand name has been great. But they have been mainly generators of top grade graduates - not as much research as there should have been. Recently RECs have been converted to NITs. We hope they will also rise and shine. What we probably need more is the evolution of quality colleges that are visibly different from the teaching shops in some of the states. I for one do not know if extending the name to some more campuses will be of much help to the nation. May be more youngsters can aspire for the green card!
yes we need more as per our population now if we update present ric to iits it will improvise their standards and our people have proved it that they are the best in the world so give them more chances to more and they will do better and will be seen every where
feel proud to be indians as best talents in the world only thing they need is better chances and encouragement so why not give them more
This really does not help Us grow.. Coming to think about it .. you have thousands of engineers coming up every year and surely IIT would lose its lusture if this were to happen.. The standard would not be the same anymore .. IIT stands for the best of everything and in no way this should be made more reachable except for ones who truly deserve it .. This might even ruin the name that IIT has now!.
