yes,we need but
by Deba on Oct 24, 2003 09:37 AM  Permalink

Sir

I feel we need some good university which give students

,more Options b;coz nows a days ,it's too much competition

for getting a iit seat and it's also not possible to take all Best

students of India.so we of course need 1 or 2 more IITS,but

those university should be good in teaching otherwise we

lose the reputation of IIT.So before giving any University

and Any REC as A IIT,they shouldbe looks by IIT prof

whether it's teaching is upto mark or not.If we can do that,we

can fulfill our requirement .I think there shouldn't be any

politics in it as always our govt . plays all these games with

students and ver y poor person.

Regards

Deba

IITs
by V.Sekar on Oct 24, 2003 09:12 AM  Permalink

IITs are too expensive to run as well as they have a purpose to serve. If all good things are had in plenty, there would not be any good things left, a la the private engineering colleges , private medical college etc etc.The proliferation of improperly educated masses does not serve any purpose ecxcept dilute the quality of education and downgradation of the IITs!!! Our rulers shoud not shoot their mouths in such matters without weighing the real dangers ( which last more than the five year tenure of an elected people's rep. BEWARE of Sloganeering and the POOR tax payers' money.

More IITs is worth!

If the RIT's are upgraded to the Academic standards as the IITs have, it is a suggestion worth to consider.

Do we need more IITs?
by shilpi bharil on Oct 24, 2003 03:43 AM  Permalink

I do believe that there should be more IITians but not IIT colleges. First of all who will give this assurance that if REC gets converted into IIT, they maintain the same standard as IIT. Beacz now-a-days large no. of engineering colleges are opening providing no proper faculty and labs. The competition for getting entry in such colleges becomes so easy that even students do not want to struggle to take admission in good colleges. They also choose to enter in such colleges rather than wasting years to get admission in institutes like IIT. Many of them have opinion that lets take the bachelor degree from any college and then they do their Masters from IIT. I think this attitude will never leads to maitnain the level of IIT. One who really knows the value of IIT only such students can compete to enter in IIT. So its better to increase few seats of existing IITs instead of converting REC into IIT.

if iit's help in development of states of india, then they should be opened but if they are opened just for the sake of opening then some individuality and staus should be mantained.

Do we need more IIT's?
by samir ghosh on Oct 24, 2003 12:41 AM  Permalink

I am amazed at narrow vision of so many

respondents rejecting the idea of more IIT's.

Universally we are recognized as incubating the

best brains and that recognition is far from

saturatingin at least one decade. To talk about

losing its exclusivity is myopic and threat to

dilution of standards is negative thinking,

Tomorrow's world is founded on the knowledge

industry. To restrict growth of of all knowledge

institutions for narrow considerations and

specious debates of quality versus quantity is

mystifying. Our global strategy must be founded

on churning out knowledge exponents to adorn

the global stage and no less. We need to support

all initiatives to expand and upgrade our

knowledge crucibles without looking back.

we need to be unbiased
by pratyush on Oct 24, 2003 12:34 AM  Permalink

India, with such a vast population wud always welcome such proposals to raise the standards of degrading education culture in india...but we cant just implement propsals just for the sake of doing something....i hereby make an earnest request to the minisry of HRD to be totally unbiased in choosing the institutes for upgradation....

only those colleges which can fulfill certain requirements and which has all the credentials to be upgraded shud only be converted into IITs....cos IIT is not just an institute, its India's pride....so doing anything that brings ill-repute to ur pride is no less than a serious felony....only those colleges who have been outstanding record and have brought glory to india shud be upgraded..we need to forget all those regional basis...
