I think it`s better to increase the number of iit`s since we cannot identify the real innovative talent of a person by conducting a single exam i.e. IIT-JEE.
it should be noted that it is also important to maintain standards.
From 1993 , India has proven to be developing rapidly in technology.IITs have given some of the best brains in the world and who will not welcome another move (to increase IITs) that boosts Indian technical standards.
One thing should be made clear that although we are increasing the IITs,they must be of a standard thats specific to IITs.
After reading a lot of views on the subject matter I felt the opinions vary from one extreme to the other. In my opinion it only Mr. Joshis' publicity stunt and since IITs are all ready getting a lot of first page space in leading newspaper, he also wants to be the part of lime light. He is already tried to infuse a lot of politics into the ways of working of institutes like IITs and IIMs.
Intead of opening more IITs what he really needs do is benchmark IITs and the try to raise the standards of other institutese. And why is it only applicable for engineering institutes. Definitely one can not make every university, every colleage in india an IIT for name sake but yes their quality can be improved.
If IITs have carved a name for themselves then one major factor was that we didnt some one like Mr. Joshi at the helms. What I mean is that IITs and IIMs have been autonomous universities coupled with high caliber teachers and that what made them what they are today, not politics.
we certainly need more IITs. in this globalising world to stay in contentions we must have up to date knowledge, on which iit is best at. moreover for courses like aerospace engineering etc. there isn't any good institute other than iits. so we badly need them.
Yes, I fully support to have more iit in different area of the country, where there is lack of good technological institution.At the same time, we should try to maintain the level of this reputed institute. We should include many new field of study and IITs.
Dear sir/madam, As far this issue is concerned, I dont think this would be a better idea for technological improvement, instead of that we can improve the standard of remaining IIT to the level of MIT r maryland in USA. i request the concerned committee not to dilute the current IITs standard.

to grow up one needs to have quality in that instead of quantity. so increasing the no. of IITS does not mean that we r increasing the quality of education. IIT is one of the best of its kind and try to remain them same. bye.......
In order to cater to expectations of 100 billion people of india we do need more iits..but here caution should be observed in upgrading the institutes..a high level commitee of exiitans ,faculty,aicte should go and inspect all the prospective colleges of india and should sumbit a report based upon the actual infrastructure present there instead of subliming to demands of region with the aim of establishing iits across the length and breadth of india... in my view some of the good colleges capable of iit tag are... it-bhu,nit trichy,nit suratkal,nit warangal,mnnit allahabad....
