Yes. Surely creation of % more IITs will improve the quality of technical education in India. WE need one IIT in Central India (at Bhopal),karnataka,Andhra,Rajastan in that order
Increasing the Number of IIT's is fine but the question is will the Rec's which are going to be conversted into IIT's will be able to produce the same result as teh existing ones.
So in my opinion first the level of REC's should be raised regarding all facilities and academics which is a very slow process.
I don't understand why there is a need to increase the number of IITs.It's reputation will go down as the number increases. The competition spirit will be destroyed.
The proposal for turning some Regional engineering Colleges to IITs will only result in decreasing the fame and power of the existing IITs.The capability of these RECs to provide such high standards of education is also doubtful
yes we need more iits. not 12 but even more. ours is a 2nd largest populated country and hence it should have no of iits in proportion. it wontv dilute standards but will turn india to more technical man powered country.
We should primarily focus on bringing world class standards to our existing IITs and only when this is achieved should we think of upgrading and bringing other institutes on par with todays standards.
The costs for upgrading and maintaining such institutes would be an economical burden and would eventually result in dilution of the existing educational standards for all IITs.
