well we do need more iits but not by converting recs and nits into them but by converting good institutes like birla institute of technology,mesra or bits pilani.these institutes have good infrastructure and the placement status is also world class.
This is delicate subject as far as student community is concerned.The point to be noted is, are RECs in a position to be converted to IITs.If yes the move should be welcome,but if no these institutions should first upgrade themselves so that they are worthy of conversion.
If The Government Does It's Best To Keep The Standard Of The Newer IIT's As Good As The Old Ones, It Will Be A Lot Of Help To The Aspiring Students And Also It Sure Will Churn Out More Intelligent Brains.
I dont think we need to increase number of IIT's bcoz we need quality of students not quantity. Increasing the number might result in deterioration of quality we have.
