Cos it is the Brahmins who discriminated against lower castes for centuries in India...and many of these lower caste communities were denied even basic needs and rights like access to the village well and primary education for their kids...
So, a significant chunk of these lower castes remained illiterate and their illiteracy adversely affected their ability to become successful in their professional careers....
Most of them were restricted to menial jobs or low paying government jobs during the British era..... The efforts of Babasaheb Ambedkar meant that in post independence india there was an awareness of the social ramifications of denying a large chunk of the population their basic rights...
The ill effects of this discrimination are still felt...lower caste people are not as smart as upper caste communities, they don't converse well in English, their ability to forge relationships and contacts is poor and they have poor taste in clothing and language..... Brahmins should feel ashamed of themselves about what they have done to another set of humans....treated them worse than animals!!

secular education as it is understood and practiced today is of recent origin say 100-200 years.in most of the countries priestly and aristocratis classes were only educated to certain extent. easy availblity of paper and printing tecnology, transport and communication made it possible . before that most of the education consisted of studying religious literature and few litrary master pieces and some arts and crafts. thank heavens not all the citizens were scholors in ramayana, mahabaratha and vedas. they occupied other profession and made living possible.

even if the earlier generations of brahmins did discriminate, there can be no justification for the punishment that the current generation of brahmins are put to. And for ur information if ambedkar was so concerned about the suppressed class and determined to get rid of casteism then y did he run away to budhism ?

Oh Can you answer me the following questions?
1. Around 1000 or 2000 years back, What was the thing deprived to lower castes by rahmins? IIT, IIM, Govt Job. There were nothing of these things in those era. The persons who actually ruled the country were the OBCs who elevated brahmins to priesthood. So, you should find fault with them for abusing dalits and not brahmins. You speak as if Brahmins spoke English for 5000 years.
2. Why did British nominate brahmins? Did brahmins come forward and asked british to nominate them for Govt jobs. Boss, it is british idea to divide and rule and brahmins have fallen to their trap just like anyone else.

It is true. The reason for having highest number of illiterates resulting in high poverty in India is because of the practice of Caste system and so called upper castes crushing the poor. Please atleast make emends for what you have donr to this country by increasing the literacy in India and reduce poverty levels. Dont politicise and want to take the benefits of reservations.

I'v just observed some of the comments below that Y Brahmins should get reservations. It seems Brahmins are now Back Caste. Now matter anything which goes up definetly comes down it is a cycle. The time will come at that Brahmins will remain handful & government have to consider them as Minority :) & Yes Brahmins are Men they will carry them self with the culture & Class coz it is in the blood dear. they are already in a minority in tamil nadu only 40 lakhs maybe half would have left for the US or abroad where people appreciate their services
The purpose of reservation itself is to suppress even the very very poor brahmins... Reservation is meant for economically well off BCs,MBCs... Even ambassadors,public sector industries GMs ,bank managers if they are BCs they all claim reservation quota.

How many of IPS, Doctor, MNC Jobs, senior civil servants etc of so called OBC and SC/ST son's and daughters enjoy reservation. If those creamy layer can get reservation in the name of the rest, why not brahmins in the name of other poor brahmins?

i know many ppl. who are in dire financial situation...doing jobs of peons...still they are considred "forward" caste... on the other hand well to do ppl. continue to enjoy privileges for themselves and for their kids in every walk of life ... what to say of this?

they should make a rule where economic condition and merit criteria should govern reservations. The whole caste thing is really bad it is often abused. They should seperate church (religion) from state. we need a civil society right now there is too much anarchy. if you ask anyone he will say i am a punjabi or tamilian (for example)(do not mean to be against anyone) they never say I am a Indian. we need to change the mind set.

The reasons why Brahmins are in high positions is because of their IQ and brain and their hard work and not because of the dirty caste system. I feel quota should be economically backward and not backward in caste.

How many persons u have burned or burried alive till now buddy? every now and then a cast who are facing some problem are coming up with reservation demand and they aer fullfilled. Then why do u have problem with reservation to brahmins if they are facing issues??

It is shameful to ask for reservation. Brahmins are like atoms, the more you press it the more they explode. You can see the brahmins from Tamilnadu migrated to cities like Mumbai when they were oppressed there. You can see the fate of Taminadu today. After decades they have now migrated to other countries and flourishing. Indeed Sekar should look for reservation for the economically backward irrespective of the religion rather than trating the human beings by caste for pettye politics.
Brahmins will be protected by the Vedas if they follow the rituals properly and will fall apart if they do not follow them.
