by Vasudevan Lakshminarasimhan on Mar 31, 2009 06:02 PM  | Hide replies

Brahmins should get their pound of flesh too .either remove all the caste based reservation systems or give the share to them also. why not?
our Politicians have done many wrong things .so to negative makes positive.

I am all for reservations - but only on the basis of economic criteria, and that too up to the school leaving. After that, one should surive only on merit. All other basis for reservations should be banned.

Brahmin imbroglio
by sethu madhavan on Mar 31, 2009 06:01 PM  | Hide replies

It is a very tough question to answer as to who is a brahmin and who is not. almost alloever innumerable people claim to belong to be brahmins but actually are not and may not have been so in the past. so the question of caste is rubbish. Even S.ve.sekhar is aperson whose identity is certainly suspect.

If a SC or ST or a Nadar or a Vanniar can be identified so can a Brahmin be.The question of caste being rubbish is what the Brahmins also say.But S.Ve.sekar is forced to ask for a reservation as there is a system of caste based reservation in vogue in TN.If S.Ve.Sekar's identity is suspect how did the citizens of Mylapore vote for him? Do not insult the intelligence of the voters of Mylapore

Now BSP (Bahujan Samj Pary) which is the party for Bahujans, is also considering to allow reservations to upper casts. Not only this party, almost all parties, except congress are professing allowing reservations for poor people in upper casts. HENCE, THE EARTH HAS TAKEN A FULL CIRCLE. SO why not, atleast now, remove all reservations which is based more on political considerations, and allow merit to flourish.

WHY DO BRAHMINS NEED RESERVATIONS?
by Pavan Nori on Mar 31, 2009 06:00 PM  | Hide replies

I read in one of the articles published couple of years back that Tamil - Iyers/Iyengars are next to Jews- The most complex and intelligent people in the World. It is also evident that no brahmin community in India has ever uttered a word against reservations till date this is because they are equiped with skills and do not need any stick to walk unlike other communities. I suggest brahmins in India to come together and nurture their own resources for their development this will also help economically downtrodden brahmins. Jews are glaring example for this.. Why do you need reservations.....

Pavan, this issue the shekar has raised is not about reservation to Brahmins, but an indirect indicator at the unfair reservation that exists in TN for all other caste. This is a political way of bringing the issue to the forefront. Idea behind this issue is to avoid all forms of reservation whatsoever and rely only on merit

Anand, Why not the caste itself bring itself in the front seat instead of looking somebodies help? Why not Brahimns join together to form the might wall which is good for the community as well as the country.. think..

Pavan, the caste is continuosly working without any reservation for the last several hundred years. If you see many leading businessmen, artist, scientist, authors, from the brahmin community, they are there on their own..so this issue is not seeking help from anyone...but to pinpoint the bias existing in todays society...It does not mean that since the society we had several hundred years ago was biased, we should be biased today also

MR VEERAN
S.Ve.Sekhar and AIADMK
by MR VEERAN on Mar 31, 2009 06:00 PM

Hats off to S.Ve.Sekhar for his boldness in openly saying that he never fell on the feet of AIADMK supremo and for his matured answers. This is the time when every caste is wanting to get reservation. This is being done with their respective associations or caste parties. If any party / person believes that casteism is a curse then there shall not be any reservation for anybody. Parties should not field candidates belonging to a particular caste for a constituency where a particular community is living most. It is very easy to talk but very difficult to act. Under the circumstances there is nothing wrong in asking for reservation for brahmins. Let it be based on income not based on birth.

British during their rule did create some one who can be subservient and learn English to communicate with Indians,Brahmins largely took these kind of jobs which was obviously eyesore for others and they thought reservation is the only way you can contain Brahmins.

by Chimpansi on Mar 31, 2009 05:59 PM  | Hide replies

WTF? This reservation is going no where. TN already has 69% reservation and now another 7%?
Its high time to get rid of reservation. It never met the purpose! Yes agreed Brahmins live a pathetic life living with all possible troubles and humiliations. Outside major cities Brahmins in temples are literally begging for their survival. Instead of solving those problems asking for reservations is absolute foolishness. Since reservation is a carrot for politician lets just convert it into economic reservation. Let the poor get more %, no matter what caste or religion they belong to. Let politicians chase the poor and offer them incentives.

Brahminism Does not Determined By Birth
by VISHWANATHA on Mar 31, 2009 05:56 PM  | Hide replies

In Sanskrit.

"JANMANAH JAYATHE JANTHU, KARMANAH JAYATHE DWIJAH, VEDA PRARAYANE VIPRAH, BHRAMHA JNANETHI BHRAMANA" MEANs

By one's Act(Good knowledge and Behaviour) only
a person become BRAHMIN and not By Birth. By Birth All are like animals (Janthu = Worm)

So There is no Caste Called Brahmin. It is by his behaviour only becomes Brahmin.

Brahmins of current era Becoming Shudras by thier behaviour and so There is no respect to Brahmins.

A Good Brahmin By Behaviour and His Karma is having Good respect in Socity Still today.

Cunnigness of Brahmin brought down the respect . Brahmins become drunker and meat eater today. Becase Brahmins are taking wrong path, entire World is in Worng Path.

What Brahmins require today is not reservation but academic, social, moral and, if possible material support (in the form of loans and borrowings) from their own castemen who are in good palces, either in business, service (though it is dwindling fast in govt. sector due to reservation), industries and academia. Shudra like brahmins (there are really amny now a days) dont. deserve any support. Let them suffer on their own. But real Brahmins must be given above mentined support. Educated Brahminsa are mostly very tolerant and supportive to lower castes. The class of Thiries in Bihar is run by one IPS officer Abhyananda Jha , a brahmin. It is giving IITians from lower caste of the society. But the political leadreshsip of these castes are like Talibanis, especially in Tamil Nadu, and Bihar, preachibng hatred towards Upper castes , mainly Brahmins. Society cant' be changed by creating Neo Brahmins and castigating original ones. If India is to survive as a vibrant democracy one should not pull down others to go up. Percentage of Population is a farce and unscietific. Who says OBCs are 27%? It is just an imagination of Kaka kalelkar and BP Mandal.

By the same logic there is no caste for any one as all are said to be animals. So why reservation for other castes? If
Brahmins were cunning they would have maneuvered reservation long time .

Dear Mr.Sundaerrajan,
Thank you for your reply. Cunning means should not apply for all. Few of them are cunning. For Eg: Jawaharlal Nehru belongs to that category. I am Not want to mention more. Rest are self explanatory.

The caste system is irrelevant in nowadays..some DNA traits do exist in the caste members, but they are alos vanishing day by day...so let us stop all reservations or make available reservation for economically backward which will include poor Brahmins, a section which is growing day by day
