Hinduism's caste system is a religious-based system of separating groups and keeping one class (the Brahmins) over everyone else. In America there is no system in place today that forces people to remain separate or keeps one class subservient to another. If you were born the son of a street sweeper, but excelled, you could become a doctor or lawyer or some celebrity or entrepreneur - and at the same time you would be fully accepted by your peers. Not so in India. The caste system freezes everyone in place. It is extremely difficult - almost impossible - for someone from the lowest caste to rise in education and social status. A Dalit would never be allowed to marry into one of the higher castes and would never be accepted as an equal. And for a Dalit to make it into medical school or become a member of high society in India is very rare indeed. Only by escaping from the grasp of Hinduism do they have much of a chance.... And as of today only 1% of marriages in India are Inter-Caste or Inter-Religious.

Who said that. Will Donald Trump give you his riches to you or to his son? Why did Goeorge Bush become presidnt but not some Joe? Look in every society people are separated into dofferent groups based on birth . We call it castes, some call it as class (eg: Nobles and Commons ). In every society there is always a discrimination based on birth. And that discrimination will continue to exist. So to say that India's caste system is something horrendus is just ignorance. That does not mean caste system is great. But blind criticism is not correct. We are the only religion in this world that has survived when all other contemporary religions ( like Greks/ Zorastrians etc.) were virtually wiped out of the world. We are the only country and the only religion that still exists in the same place where it is being practised from ages. So blaming the religion is not correct. Also if you become a chrisitan will a white/black christian marry you. Rather Will you marry them?. Will a Arab mislim marry you if you become a muslim? Marriage is not reason for deciding which religion you should follow? In fact the fact that you are so desperate to marry some one from other cste shows that you have a sense of inferiority about yourself. I think you should first get rid of that. I don't see black christians in US complainig that white christians don't marry them in US? Every society has its pluses and minuses. Our aim should be to minimize the negatives and increase the positive.

America has recovered from its racist past and Hindus need to recover from their distorted casteist past. Lot of recover has already happened with education, urbanization and modernization. One needs to have the ability of all castes to succeed in Life - Thinker (Bramhin), Protector (Kshatriya), Economist (Vaishya) and a Skilled Worker (Shudra). Hence, talking about reservation based on caste by birth is fraud and waste of time unless it has some economic basis. In the 21st century, success is all about performance and productivity for inner fulfillment. Hence, either perform or perish.

HAhahaha...U live in 1947. Wake up India is a free country now. FYI, a state like Punjab, has more than 60% Doctors from Lower caste only. Remember the Medico protest against reservation across india? Punjab didnt participate at all. becoz maximum punjab docs are SC STs.

In America there is no reservation and everybody gets equal opportunity. But in India in some states like Tamil Nadu a whooping 70% seats are reserved for the socalled backward classes. Even with highier marks the upper caste is denied admissions. Unless an economy/income based reservation is implemented the upper caste will keep on suffer like this.

You do not have to go out of Metros - even in Metros people will ask you this question - Tamil Nadu is the most casteist state - they will continue to use caste identity for political purposes.. they (TN) have no right to talk about Bihar, UP etc..
As per Slashdot Brahmins are people residing in India who have created caste/religion system in India 3000 years ago, which assigns each person a "fixed" place in the social hierarchy. As per this system Brahmins by birth are privileged to stay "on top" of social and economic hierarchy. Currently they predominantly practise this ancient caste system and deprive and deny other Indians of social and economic benefits. Currently the population of Brahmins in India is only 5%.
But,
* 95% of the jobs in "Business" are occupied by Brahmins. * 95% of the positions in "Judiciary" are occupied by Brahmins. * 95% of the time India is "Ruled" by Brahmins after independence. * 50% of the positions in government "Administration" are occupied by Brahmins.

In India elections are won by liquor, counterfeit notes, caste calculations and minority votes and reservations. All these forces work against brahmins. Still, brahmins get that 95% of what you have listed. Now I suggest you to beat brahmins. Don`t go to a brahmin lawyer, Don`t send your children to a school with brahmin teachers or to tution with any brahmin. Don`t go to a brahmin doctor.Go to a dalit teacher for tution and dalit doctor for treatment and appoint a dalit lawyer when facing a strong litigation or criminal case. Don`t vote for a brahmin candidate. You have anyway taken over all temples for Government, destroying Ram sethu, made reservations even in IIT, higher medecine. Now let us see how will they progress?

Isnt it the non-brahmins who were (and some still are) demanding for a separate dravida nation? Know the facts before you vomit something.
What is wrong in reservations based on economic status? Because affluent and moronic dalits like you can reap the benefits?
The real dalits have remained dalits because of affluent dalits stealing what does not belong to them.
Re: Re: Wisdom
by Suresh on Apr 01, 2009 09:06 AM
I 100% agree with you Mr.Jm. Real Dalits still continue as Dalits and people like NewYork continue to reap the benefits.Even after getting Green cards they donot want to loose the benefits.

oh well every caste will ask for its own state and nation... in that case every 100 meteres.. there will be another nation of state.... think about the various currencies!!!
Reservations, when first introduced, had a purpose, helping those who had lagged behind for various reasons. Now reservation has become a vote-catching policy. Reservations should be abolished altogether in four or five years. What is required is free access to good education for all without distinctions. the weaker ones should be helped financially as well as by other means like special coaching so that anybody aspiring to get education up to any level can get it without problems. In the circumstances, it is stupid to talk of reservation for Brahmins or anybody else. It is enough if the deliberate elimination of members of the Brahmin community from educational institutions, Courts etc prevailing in some States (e.g., Tamil Nadu) is put an end to.
Reservation or affirmative action is a policy followed in many countries so that sections of the populations that have not had access to equal opportunities before the advent of democracy, have a chance to catch up with the rest.
The lower castes of Hindu society (as well as other religions) have been exploited economically and socially for centuries. And, they were deprived of access to education and learning. This could well be one of the reasons for the comparatively lower levels of intelligence found amongst, for instance STs (no offence meant), in colleges and schools in India today. Their grandparents did not have the access to education and intellectual development that for instance, the Brahmins had.
Dear pals, it will take a few centuries to reverse the trend. Hence, affirmative action is justified and required.

Intention is always good as u said, but our dear politicians has turned it to their benefit. 95% categorized as low caste ?. Ignoring any minority is not good for civilization - be it be high caste. In a good society, every one is unique and should be given due respect. if the society had cancer, then it should be treated and stage by stage the medication has to be lowered as it gets healed. But we are getting addicted to the medicine itself and causing a new cancer.

well grandad it would be good if you were to inculcate this -> who in ancient Bharat was responsible for intellectual development and education? and they existed before the Brahmans TRUTHFULLY- think my friend(s)

Ok, Don't give any quota to Brahmins. Let them be chosen at GQ (General Quota).
But, can other castes (BC, MBC, SC, ST, etc) also be sent to GQ, if:
1. Any one of the parent is already employed in govt? 2. If their earnings are greater than the nation's per capita income ? 3. Ok, I know nation's per capita income is low. Lets double it? or triple it? ok boss, lets put a slab of 3 Lakhs or 5 Lakhs etc? 4. And any financial statement provided must be scrutinized very severely. If found guilty, cease the property. If found guilty after the reaping the fruit, grab the fruit, with legal proceedings.
Re: 'Why shouldn't Brahmin community get reservation?'
by RAJ KONA on Apr 01, 2009 08:06 AM
No. It cannot. The system is fraud ridden. Any certificate can be faked. The fact that poor Brahmins continue to remain poor while rich BC's, SC's and ST's continue to use reservation is a travesty.
