Dada's farewell
by Rugved Kulkarni on Oct 07, 2008 10:58 PM  Permalink

In a way Ganguly took the right decision. He had made a good noteworthy comeback after the Chappell-Ganguly. However, he clearly was not much comfortable on the field, be it while batting or bowling or fielding. He probably judged it right that there is no point to continue this way. But still I feel, he deserves a better exit. We all shouldn't forget the fact that it is becoz of him that the team has become aggressive and we have won matches which we could have lost without that killer instinct or agression.

saurav was better in odis but was dropped from that only.
by vinay on Oct 07, 2008 10:57 PM  Permalink

ironically, saurav a better player for odi version was dropped from odis n selected for tests itself was mismatch selection. that started his doom.
although his avg doesnt appear gr8 for tests, he is known for his big hitting in odis.

his fielding was much maligned. after becoming capt, he improved his fielding as well. although he wsnt that agile, merely agility doesnt take u to the playing xi.

even the all time gr8 fielder johnty rhodes who cudnt think of his place in team merely on fielding criteria. even he had to perform with his bat else, there was an axe hanging on him. so if johnty cant b spared, forget abt rainas, kaifs, yuvs selection merely on fielding skills, one cant b in the team merely bcoz they r young or so-called young 'legs.'

Fab 4?
by Prince Roy on Oct 07, 2008 10:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

who the hell put vvs laxman in fab club ? he was not good in odis ,just ok in tests. tendulkar, ganguly, dravid have played godlike innings when they were at their peek in both odis and tests.

Hi Prince Roy,
Is Laxman not part of fab4 because he is not from the Eastern province to which Ganguly belongs? Laxman is one of the classiest strokeplayers the world has ever seen and I have seen a lot of them. If one does not understand one should refrain from comments. Laxman and Dravid and Tendulkar and Dada are all the real Dadas of Cricket in India as they have played well in all conditions aginst tough attacks. Unfortunate that our media and the people today have a very low attention span.

hello...Laxman is one of the gifted player in India only next to Sachin and along with Dravid...Actually Dravid also struggles to take singles whereas Laxman is a natural stroke maker...I agree that he is not good on field but he is really good at slips...Def he is one of Fab2...Cricket is not just sixes and fours...its more of class...Laxman does not have god fathers in Cricket like how Sachin and Ganguly has....

buddy, you need to brush up your cricket knowledge a bit ... if you look at most of the overseas wins for india, be it in australia 2003/2007-08, south africa or west indies ... dravid and laxman have had major contributions ... and then how can you miss out laxman's dream innings of 281 at edens against australia in 2001 ... he is still one of the finest middle order test batsman

but fact remains that Laxman is not an all-version player...he is fit only for tests!

buddy.... whenever we talk of laxman, the entire India can remember only one of his inning of 281... no one can remember any other great inning played by him.... but its not the case with dravid, sachin, saurav (in ODI's) or kumble (with the ball)... so i think the entire crowd which is referring laxman in fab 4 should be changed and instead of him.... KUMBLE should be included in that list

281 is just one of the many wonderful knocks he played against nations with good bowling line up...there are so many test matches where he has built amazing partnerships with batsmen at all orders including tail enders...he is the only batsmen on whom captain can rely in test matches....

ganguly's retirement decision:
by Pradeep Jauhar on Oct 07, 2008 09:57 PM  Permalink

How strange to now hear and see in print whether we have replacements for the Fab 5; until the other day scribes all over India(with whatever experience they had at their disposal)were ecstatic in mentioning various names as replacements for the Fab 5. Now, that one of the Fab 5 has chosen to retire on his own terms(or has he?), the scribes do not know whether replacements are available!!! Such is cricket writing for you India!!See the reaction of international cricketers(like Shane Warne)who have given such proper evaluations and praised Ganguly, which he richly deserves!

Sourave Ganguly - Delcares Exit from4th Feb
by Gattu Rambhav on Oct 07, 2008 09:47 PM  Permalink

Rigth decision, so long played for the nation, created many records Individually and also as Leader.

Nice to give opportunity to youngesters and sit in the back seat as an adviser or coach as and when Opportunity knocks the door.

Still lot of cricket is there with Saurav but not as a player but as a Coal or guide.

All the best

what the other 3 are doing
by sanjay shridhar ranade on Oct 07, 2008 09:39 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

VVS has been sacked in Hyderabad,Rahul has a wall built in memory and ANil has bowled more balls than he should bowl why these 3 did not join Dada to make the headline read 'the Fab Four retire"

Ha Ha Ha... good suggestion my friend...
Actually they want to be kicked instead of retire... remember Kapil was being dragged for his record....
Indian cricketers are not known for glorious exodus... they are too much money minded. They are no match for the great Aussies in any departments be it on field or off field.
