Yes, this is the beginning of the end. After Ganguly, the batsmen to follow:
Dravid (too much pressure has made him too conscious of his technique, he may leave next year or so) Laxman (although much younger, his fitness will leave him high and dry, by 2010) Tendulkar (all good things in life has to come to an end. I would love to see him as a part of 2011 Indian world cup winning team and leave on a high note).

May be a wise decision but a delayed decision definitely, he could have done that prior to his selection.

Ya, if he would have excluded Sachin's name then you wouldn't have said "Yawn". come on.. be realistic
Yes, Ganguli has taken the right decision. After being ignored for the Rest of India Team, Sourav must have realised that his days are numbered in the national team and better bow out gracefully rather than being sidelined forever. It is also a signal to the other three members in the Fab Four.
Silly. The media is biased against the four and wants to drive a wedge between the sr and jr players. It appears to be an obscene offshoot of the casteism introduced by the politicians. Do the journalists quit jobs when they turn 40?

Are u suggesting that everybody should RETIRE by 35 from whichever profession one is in. !
Its a good decision & will reduce considerable pressure from him. It is always better to end such a fantastic career with honour than with insult & humiliation as happened to Steve Waugh at the end of his ODI career.
GOOD LUCK SAURAV... For the test Series. Make this series a memorable one.

I agree. Ganguly has made the right decision. Let us give him a nice farewell, which he richly deserves. Thanks to the selectors, he has got a good chance to leave the world cricket scene (on field) with an arch of honour from his teammates. He will be remembered as fantastic, David Gover like, elegant left handed batsman and also as an astute captain, who uplifted the spirits of Indian cricket.

ofcourse he is a great player and that does't mean he can hang on till he wants. He is getting injured now and then. He is taking his place in team for granted nowadays.
Kumble also better leave after Aus series.and then rahul should leave after 6 months. sachin can play accordingly as he likes. And laxman is not as old as the other four. so he can continue playing for atleast two more years. There should be gradual injection of juniors
