Does it mean no player should announce retirement while they are playing? Then when will they retire? When a player is not in the team, then where is the question of retirement. Doesn't it look absurd?

Re: Quit with Honour
by Srikanta Dani on Oct 07, 2008 05:56 PM
I agree. Ganguly has made the right decision. Let us give him a nice farewell, which he richly deserves. Thanks to the selectors, he has got a good chance to leave the world cricket scene (on field) with an arch of honour from his teammates. He will be remembered as fantastic, David Gover like, elegant left handed batsman and also as an astute captain, who uplifted the spirits of Indian cricket.

The decision is not sudden. Immediately after his return from Australia, he told the then Selection committee that he was planning to quit in September or October 2008.

Beginning of the end has started long time back..

Beginning of the end started on the day when India lost to Bangladesh in 2006 World Cup. It seems to be taking too long for end of the end to begin!!!

You have no guts to retire from ODI cricket.
As your record in test is not good you will retire
Retire from ODI also
You are playing for record only.
Fab fours are playing for record only.
Take some lesson from Aussies.
Gilkrist retire when he was played 99 tests

Hey duffer,

Use glasses and read the above article. GANGULY IS QUITTING CRICKET (Not only test cricket!). He is also quitting ODI cricket (its another case if you want to use just something to ridicule him).

Atleast at this moment of farewell, spare him all this garbage talk and give him a great farewell (if u dont like him, be quiet).

Its really a gud decision taken by Ganguly. because now there is no cricket left in ganguly. Nxt should be Laxamn & after dat Dravid.
but, there is so much of cricket is still in Tendulkar. hence he should at atleast continue till next world-cup....

Nice move
by deepak nag ayyala on Oct 07, 2008 06:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Excellent decision dada. Age has taken the fab four, making thab flabby four. The others should just follow his lead. No point in being in the 11 for the sake of being.
I expected this move from Sachin first, though.
Age gives experience, but it never sharpens your reflexes and physical abilities.

Maybe a tour of Bangladesh or some team low on confidence is needed to give the selectors a chance to look at the next generation.

Time to replace the Fab 4!

Re: Nice move

If you replace all of them at one go, you create a huge void in the middle order. I do not think the Rohits, the Dhonis, the Rainas and the Badarinaths are ready.
They have to to given time and given time with legends.

There are two types geniuses. One is Rahul Dravid (who has work at it day in and day out) and other is Sachin Tendular (who is a born genius)

What we should remember is both of them became legends because they played with greats such as Kapil Dev. You need legends in the team to breed youngsters.
