Nearly. Ponting should learn from Kumble how to use his bowlers. No Oz opening partnership was above 20, both Indias were more. The difference in openers runs was almost the final result.
Ponting opened with his best bowler at the wrong end (Lee) and his most in form bowler at 1st change (Clark). His fastest bowler bowled with the old ball into the wind and hardly bowled at all (Tait). Both Pathan and Singh were at a good length from ball one and Sharma has obviously watched some old Ambrose tapes. All 3 bowlers bowled exceptionally.
Whether you agree or not that Kumble is a better person is irrelevant. Ponting has no idea how to run a bowling lineup whereas Kumble is much more astute. Kumble gave Ponting a lesson in pure cricket captaincy. Ponting still thinks that when the team needs a wicket, give the ball to Warne and McGrath.

Hooray!!! We've done it, Team! It was a great showing by the entire team there, at Aussie's own terrain, Perth. It was great to watch the team perform unitedly, especially the quality perforance by youngsters greatly supported the team.
Kumble looks indeed, courageous as he decided to bat first on the challenging & difficult to play on Perth pitch and bringing in Irfan as night watchman was abig decision and irfan also lived upto his skipper's faith by contributing with an all-round performance. R.P. was excellent with so many wickets in his pocket and Viru's two wicket show was appreciated alongwith Ishant's Ponting wicket. Laxman also proved his title V.V.S. right by consolidating Indian 2nd inn. The tailenders seemed & will be responsible to add worth considerable no. of runs to the mounting score. More imp., Irfan's spakling comeback with 1st T20 WC Man of the Match award & today, in 2008, man of the Match title at 3rd Perth test. It made me proud to be his fan, just like I was when he was spending efforts to bounce back. Also, Indian team served the revenge to Aus. for making Bhajji suffer, by arresting Aus.'s chain of 17 consecutive test wins & became 1st Indian as well as Asian team to win agnst. Aus. at Perth. I'm really proud of them and thanks to selectors for allotting captaincy to Kumble, who managed his team very perfectly and rightly lived upto the selectors' faith. All the best for Adelaide and win it too!!!!
