D/L method
by fellowgoodie on Feb 13, 2008 03:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Guyz, one thing I dont understand and which I think is unfair in rain curtailed matches is that, dont you think India would have scored more than 154 in 21 overs, had they known that it would only be 21 over to play for as they will have 10 wickets in had. They played a bit carefully, coz it is 29 overs. I think one team will always be at receiving end, in these rain-curtailed matches. Dont you agree?
After all,who can forget the 21 runs in 1 ball farce that happened in 92 world cup.

I perfectly agree fellowgoodie. You are right baout the rain curtailed matches. This whole Duckworth Lewis method is cuckoo....it sucks so badly man. I don't know how the people are sticking with it in the ICC!!! Its amazing....

then D/L method was not in account. 92 WC had weird rule, only the non-socring balls would be ommitted. Whereas D/L method is more statistical and mathematical. Targets are defined by number of wickets and playable overs.

Btw, 154 in 21 overs is more asking rate than 195 in 29. Dhoni only knows how to blame. After the Twenty20 debacle, he accused the batters, now the weather. Had it not rained India would have lost the other two. God was gracious to them.

India will not win
by India on Feb 13, 2008 02:28 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Except for Ishant and Rohit there is nothing to rave about this team. Both Australia and Sri Lanka will beat India without a fuss. Last night's loss was an absolute embarassment to India. Manoj, Suresh or Dinesh should have been playing instead of Yuvraj. Tomorrow Dhoni will blame the sun and the moon for India's losses.

Mr Dhoni Blamed the elements .... what are these elements ? Fire, water and land ? Thats a good excuse dude ! iam happy that he did a bit of research with DL method before giving this statement. Wikipedia states ''It is generally accepted to be a fair and accurate method of setting a target score, but as it attempts to predict what would have happened had the game come to its natural conclusion, it generates some controversy,, .. so Mr.Dhoni was talking about this controversy. Mr Dhoni, looking forward for the great finals

Why India Lost...!!!!
by bhanu prakash on Feb 12, 2008 11:32 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

indians now a days are also doing good job in the field..they made a good score today..if not so good but atleast competitive enough...
The reasons we lost today are :
03 overs of sreesanth costs 48 runs
19 Extras in a total of 154
Which leaves effectively 87 to be scored in 18 overs and i think Duleep Trophy's worst team even would have made it...instead of srilanka..so who are you blaming Mr.Dhoni..and u praise the bowling was not so bad today..hahahaha better be a captain of circus team ..logo ko hasane k kaam toh aaoge

This is not the first time that Sreesanth is way too expensive. Even in T20 he gave 20 runs in one over to Imran Nazir. He seems to use his emotions than brains and gets carried away and behaves like a spoilt child. Does he not know that he should not provide any width to Jayasuriya? How come Jayasuriya was unable to hit Ishant Sharma so easily? Sreesanth bowls well in 1 out of 5 games and he did his part against Aus in last game, so for next 4 games he can be wayard. He should be kicked out of the team when RP Singh returns. He can then show his antics somewhere else.

Hey CricFan of the 01 variety.
It was a high scoring match.
SL batsmen were taking risks and they paid off.
Which of these two statements is false?
If any of those shots were miscued, of which there was every chance, SL would have toppled like a pack of cards.
Period.
Stop this micro analysis, and enjoy the future matches.

Nice stats. 87 in 18 overs. Thats 4.84 runs per over. If Sri Lanka didn't score that with 8 wickets left it would be a huge miracle or stupidity on their part.
48 runs in 3 overs is just not acceptable by any front line bowler. Sreesanth needs to calm down and be intelligent. Try not to bowl to the oppositions strengths. 19 extras in 19 overs. Thats like 50 extras in 50 overs. Please stop the extras. Terrible performance. India does not give attention to details. Details are what give the Aussies the edge and make them the best.

You are right. India played very well. They played it like a Mini ODI. The had no idea SL will get to play it like 20/20. SL were very lucky and took the chance. Jayasurya who is great hitter did the miracle. Sreesanth is the culprit. He gave away too many runs. Otherwise Dhoni as a captain did great. Average of 6.5 runs in a over in the morning when there was swing is a great score. People please learn to appreciate good game. SL won because they really performed miracle. It was a thriller.

I thought Sri Lankans were unlucky to not get 29 overs else, they would have blundgeoned srisanth and ishant for over boundaries. saved their souls.

where dhoni got it wrong
by VancouverPunekar on Feb 12, 2008 11:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. when its a 29 over game you dont need 7 batsmen, we could have used one more bowler. (sri lankans got this right here)
2. In the middle overs we needed wickets, it was of no use saving the strike bowlers at the end and overbowling sehwag and sachin.

I am glad we didn't win yesterday, else he would have been mislead with the wrong strategy. Hopefully he learns form this.

People should not bash Indian team for the loss
by Calspadeaspade on Feb 12, 2008 11:18 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dont get emotional. It happens. India had to play it like a mini ODI with out knowing in advance that SL will get to play it like 20/20 thanks to the rain. We are playin with 2nd best team in ODI. SL fielding was always superb. India with the young team is getting there.India played very well and SL was lucky with Duckworth rule. They tried and succeeded. The plan is always clear whenyou are chasing a total.SL got to play it like 20/20 but India had to play like mini ODI and set a target whic hwas decent.

Dhoni is somewhat right...
by surana jain on Feb 12, 2008 11:04 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hey Guys
Dhoni is not completely wrong to say that revised target was easy to achieve as 150 in 21 overs is just not enough in a T20 match as what we had today... even a sucking and stinking dilshan hammered India

But he shall admit the biggest contributor was Sreeshant with the way he bowled evoked the T20 final memories being thrashed for 20 odd by Imran Nazir.... 154 could have been saved the defenders being the World Champs
So today was a pretty ordinary day for Indian bowling ... missing RP Singh definitely

Moreover why has Uthappa been sent to Australia.. ?? half the ODIs are already up.. so when are they going to use him??

Lot to think before Sunday's encounter with Australia....
