So what is Vinay trying to tell us?
by souvikmeister on May 24, 2007 03:24 PM

"We have our scientists to talk about,we have business people to talk about...almost every field we are making presence in the world" .... which scientist, Vinay? Whose name can you take without having to use google or wikipedia and talk about his / her achievement for 2 minutes?
Yes, there are very famous home grown scientists, folks who would have won the Nobel if only their skin was white ..... research Sudarshan of UT Austin, Guptasarma of NGRI, but how many of us have heard or care about them?
"No sports figure who has worldwide recognition and can be talked about at international sports forum."
Michael Ferreira, Geet Sethi, anyone? How about
Vishy Anand?
The reason we all like to talk about cricket, Vinay is the following:
01) This is one area where Indians flex their muscle like US does in everything else. The world at large respects a guy with the largest biceps, and no matter how many times we crash out in the first round, following for cricket in this country will remain like Brazillian following for soccer. Remember Brazillians waited patiently for 24 years since 1970 to win the world cup again. But whenever and wherever you may meet a Brazillian, you can rest assured that he will silence the remaining crowd when it comes to a conversation regarding soccer. I have had the same fortune myself the minute I have had the chance to talk about cricket or the Indian software industry. The reason is simple, if you got it, flaunt it, otherwise, you may be a Geet Sethi, or a Sudarshan, it just won't matter. We should continue to remain as vocal as we are about cricket, let the other disciplines, if they want a piece of the action learn the art of media packaging as well. It is increasingly as important as the skill you demonstrate.

Sports in India!!
by vinay thakur on May 23, 2007 02:19 PM  | Hide replies

Dear countrymen!
I fail to understand why so much discussion, fighting, suggestions for one game which is played by handful of countries, despite all efforts to popularize the game world wide!
*Second largest country as far as population is concerned.
*Less than 10 medals all together in Olympics
*No sports figure who has worldwide recognition and can be talked about at international sports forum.
*Almost killed other games like Hockey & football in past few decades
*Major Dhyanchand..a product of British system still remains biggest sportsman this nation has ever produced.
*Kindly please dont give me names of Gavaskar,Sachin and all(Cricket is recognized in not more than 10-15 nations in the world)
*Our non playing delegation outnumbers playing sportsmen most of the time country participates in Olympic,Asian games etc.
*Fortunately there is pre-qualifying rounds in world cup football(Our sports authorities must be very sad about FIFA policy)
*Sports is one area on which countries overall image is projected worldwide.
*We have our scientists to talk about,we have business people to talk about...almost every field we are making presence in the world.
*Sports??Comon indians are too serious to invlove themselves in sports
*But they have not seen cricket perhaps..people are mad..ohh ok..Indians too do sports!!Not bad..how they do in that game??
*We were world champs once...world champs??How many nations played that event??(7or 8)
We have actually qualified for world cup football too (1950)...WOW...not bad..what happenned afterwards...well we were just not interested..we dont like competition..we always wants to play safe..
so our politicians and sports authorities...

So dear nation,It is time to come up...please start talking about other games at least...whatever time you save from cricket you invest following in Sania Mirza..god knows how she is helping india??
Actually political ruling parties should start talking about sports acheivement during their rule(mis!)
Hahaha..they have more serious issues to talk about..like Brahman-dalit equation..Muslim-hindu angle...obc quotas and so many..I can understand..they are concentrating on human welfare first..maybe after another 50years all indian will become rich and comfortable..then we can take up this sports issue..
Till then let us make money with cricket..afterall we are the central point of cricket now...ICC,Australians,South african,English all are making money because of us only..we stop playing the game...cricket is dead.
Let them play other games too besides cricket..we will keep our focus on cricket!!

Forgot to add. People who do not respect others are abhorable people. You are free to write as much about promoting all other sports that you like but to say that it is not in order to support cricket is an argument that stinks. It is sad to know that someone can write like this.

To acheive something in sports or anything else, our education system needs to be redisgned. Why should the children waste so much of time and energy in reading useless content???

pandya aur parekh bhai dil pe mat len ... thakur sahab pate ki baat kah rahe hain.... cricket ko bhi badhawa den but jo log hockey, chess, tennis, basketball wagerah khelna chahte hain unka bhi khyaal rakhen .... single minded focus on anything is not too productive!

You see, even Cricket haters like you have to write about it. Go and keep watching Olympics. You have no respect for other individuals personal choice like liking Cricket. Why should otheres have any respect for your choices. I am sure all cricket lovers would not give a shit. choices.
