hello guys,
I don't know why u people get confused between Sachin, Lara, Injamam, Ponting, Gavaskar, or anyother class batsmen...Greatest player to perform in present era of ODI's and Test Cricket is without any doubt SACHIN....U have to take note of his fitness tooo.....he has played continuously for almost 15 years without getting dropped from the international side...AND no one should forget that he is also a useful bowler and fielder...he has taken wickets for INDIA at crucial time...one should not forget the last over bowled by him against SA in India at Hero Cup finals......where 6 runs were required..he took 5 wickets against Aus in Mohali....there are so many instances India won not only on Sachin's Batting abilities but b'cas of his bowling and fielding too...yes I agree that presently he is out of form...but going by the statastics which u people follow....Ponting is the best in his present form and he cannot continue like this in his future career....Sachin was also at his best......no one has brought Mr. Yousuf in this comparisons....he has 9 centuries in a calender year...going by this record....he has >3 yrs to play...can he make 30 centuries in the next 3 years?

Sachin definetely not great
by Raja on Nov 29, 2006 10:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I totally agree with Norman, only jingoistic indians (though am an indian) will blindly support sachin. Sachin has never performed under pressure, i mean deliver the intended results, scoring a century doesnt matter, if youre required to be there to take the team past the winning post, sorry team india is banking on wrong person. Kapil Dev was a match winner and i see none in present day cricket. Media hype is too much for Sachin and he better quits gracefully. Lara is a great player alongside arrogant Ponting. Gavaskar was a class player as he was the only player to tore apart the famed and feared WI fast bowling and scored a 13 centuries against the best team then.Sachin hasnt done anything like that.

thanks sir...
for acknowledging this fact that sachin is not as great...and i also agree that kapil was a far more fearsome and effective player wen it comes to pressure situation..infact he is the only player india has ever produced who can brutally destroy any attack under pressure..his 175 not out was superior than any of sachins 60 plus hundreds... to be named the best player means u shud be able to play well to all the bowlers of ur generation.. as i always say...he just cant play mcgrath ,pollock, bond, n any quality bowler..the only good bowler sachin has ever had edge was shane warne..apart from that he fails miserably to evn new bowlers like asif.. sachin is lucky to hav been in this generation.. not in gavaskars era where there were malcom, roberts, garner, holding, lillee, hadlee..n so on
i once again thank u for taking my mail in a right spirit..i am a cricket lover..i cant see any injustice done ..our pieterson is more dedicated than sachin..he may not hav so much skill but he is more reliable..thats wat matters

Well, dear brothers and sisters-
Its a known fact that all the players discussed are greats without doubt. However, when it comes to winning matches or turning matches on their head, there is no doubt that Lara, Ponting, Inzamam, Aravinda de Silva are far far far ahead of Tendulkar and Gavaskar. Its not how many matches in which India has won and Tendulkar has hit a century that matters. Its how many matches he has turned around. That is the touchstone for a great batsman.

dont consider records

u should consider Mr dependable rahul dravid also while discussing, one of the best batsman in the world. otherwise i think this discussion will be incomplete. look at his consistancy and number of runs he scored in test as well as one day cricket i am sure he will defend this discussion .

Mr.norman....
why ur so disappointed with a person (Sachin) who knows cricket more than anybody, ur not in figure, he is a true sportsman... did u even see him misbavaing with any other player on the field... he was the only person to introduce attacking cricket in indian crickte and what i meant to say is .. he was best... but everybody face highs and low.. u cant just compare a performing and a nonperforming player.. lara has disappointed his country men than did by Sachin... he was out of form for long .. has he been a player in country like india.. he would have even dropped.. such a case hasnt come yet fro Sachin.. u just compare.. who has scored more in last 10 matches.. i dont think any body has scored more than sachin.. that means he is still in form and han it is true that he fails many a times.. but u Mr. Norman also cant do your gal at the age of 35 at the same strength u would do at the age of 25 ... understood.. try to learn some desciplines from sachin.. it will be usefull in yopur career too.. same thing applies,.,,

well said dear mr/miss ha nha..
as expected.. indian fans will do anything to defend themselves..well..i always thought indians n aussie fans were the most knowledgeable n intellectual fans of cricket... aussies definitely are..but sorry to say u ppl arent..honestly..u dont care bout ur country..do u??..u were saying that i consider the last 10 matches..and not the overall record..u know wats steve waughs average is..34 in odi n around 45 in tests..carl hooper averages even lesser..in both forms of game..but u ask any damn former player..wud they pick these players in their 11..??? n they will tell u that these two r the most reliable players around..n its a fact..dude..consistency is more important than class..wats the use of having the best straight drive in the world..wen u get get out sooooooooo cheaply in pressure situation..playing for the country is a big big honour..u gotta respect ur inclusion..sachin never does that...gavaskar too falls in that category.. man of big big records but fails to win matches..i dont hav any personal grudges on them but i feel players like rahul dravid, kapil dev hav not got their due credit bcoz of these two (so called) giants ..

mr/miss ha nha
agreed he exhibits perfect behaviour on the field..but does that make him perfect batsman..? u know there was someone called mark waugh..perhaps one of the most elegant and gentleman sportsman from aus..u know wat they did wen he didnt perform?? mr..miss..watevr..ha?? dude..country shud be given priority..u indians just dont put country ahead of individuals..thats why u remain losers..n u will continue if u dont drop out-of-form batsmen n take in new ,talented, fresh players..atleast give them a chance ....as u said ..i wont hav the same strength to do my gal wen im 35..well even if i dont hav the same strength i wont lose her.. but if someone doesnt perform bcoz of his age.. the team..n country loses..so if u indians think that losing is not a big deal then continue with ur bogus philosophy n get disappointed wen ur team loses..look at aussies..the most succeeful captain steve waugh was dropped n he had to resign bcoz he didnt perform..n aussies really improved from where they left under pontings guidance..n today they r no 1..wats the use of ur sachin being polite n all wen he doesnt perform..u shud think before u say somthing bcoz ..not evryone is dumb as u ..haha

All three are great
by cricket fan on Nov 28, 2006 05:40 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If you consider test cricket-gavaskar,lara,sachin and ponting are up there with the later three running closely for supremacy.even though at this stage lara is a notch ahead of sachin(thanks to sachins poor form and injuries) and ponting will get up there and might as well surpass lara in terms of records(if he still continues his current form). But as you never know of sachin.in test cricket, its a close contest.
if you take One day cricket, sachin is way ahead of lara, ponting, inzamam, gilchrist and others. So if you love ODI,you will love sachin,if you love TESTs you will watch for all three but if you love cricket in general, then sachin is right on top of the rest.

u people r crazy!!!!!!!!!
by cameo norman on Nov 29, 2006 07:25 AM  Permalink
hey u indians !!!!!! dont be so sentimental n optimistic n fanatical!! do u ppl watch how the so called best batsmen sachin plays these days...he gets out to very ordinary bowlers so cheaply as if he has never known batting(not to talk of mcgrath n co)...there is a definite change to his attitude.. he may say that its for the teams interest n bull shit.. but the matter of fact is he is afraid to take on top bowlers like mcgrath n pollock... look at some of te players of his age.. lara.. for example..he was aggressive n will be aggressive..he always bats in 4th gear with no compromise in techmique..its still so beautiful n graceful..look at inzy, yousuf, ponting(who will surely surpass sachin),kallis...they all r as powerful as they used to be.. sachin simply produces crazy excuses for his incompetancy..if u see the statistics who will know wat im trying to say.. got out 7 times of mcgrath..9 times to vaas.. 5 times to pollock n 5 times to akram..n 4 to donald..that shows his haplessness agains really fast n quality bowling...shame on u sachin...n r tooted as the greatest batsmen of this era..but im sure u r not that great..

Where is Ponting ?
by Saptarshi on Nov 28, 2006 01:24 AM  Permalink

ponting will surely cross the three batsmen mentioned in the list. He has already scored his 33rd test ton. Moreover he has played lesser number of tests.Even then scores of 375* and 400* are commendable.

Sachin the great
by Siva n.s.POkuri on Nov 27, 2006 02:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All the messages posted in this section are more intent on saying Sachin is a lesser batsman than proving other two lara and ponting are better . No body gave a real reason other than their anti sachin sentiment .

Let one million people like these write against , we dont care as we know our Sachin is the best .Ask any cricket expert(including lara and ponting) they will say the same

u r insane dude...a lot of indians r wen it comes to tendulkar.. can u explain why he gets out repeatedly to top bowlers..so cheaply....it looks so cheap..u saw the recent matches...he is so tentative with his off stump n end number of times he has got out caught behind to even lesser bowlers... n u were talking bout ponting n lara..dude u see their record n then speak..sachin wud hav scored tons n tons of runs.. but he is an absolutely dumb batsmen these days..its a fact that he has lost a hell lot of his skills n class n courage(he is a dead duck nowadays)
im highly courageous..i cant tolearte this non sense that sachin is the best...he used to be.. but he has been dethroned convincingly...so stop ur hero worship bcoz its baseless n dogmatic...n enjoy watching some of the others bat..bcoz they wont disappoint u...ok sir??? u have anything to say.. plz reply

in compelete comparison
by prasanna on Nov 27, 2006 12:48 PM  Permalink

This is incomplete without adding steve waugh, Border and Pointing. Pointing is sure to cross all these people and may emerge in No.1 spot in the years to come. it is pertinent to note pointing is much younger comparing with sachin and lara, which means he can play for two or more years than these guys and even now itself he is almost very close to sachin and lara.

Ponting Missing
by Ramana on Nov 27, 2006 12:19 PM  Permalink

Always comparing lara,Sachin and Gavaskar is not Fair. Look at other too... Take a look at Ponting career graph and his centuries recently on mighty South africa, england and pakisthan. No wonder, in the coming days, when he surpasses all...
